Tapping on the potions when they are in the middle or lower part of the screen does not seem to ever work. Sometimes it briefly pops up (.25 seconds or less) a rectangle that appears to be the tool tip description of the potion.

There is a workaround, which is to scroll the potion you want to select to the very top of the screen, then tapping on the potion seems to work.
