The preference is disabled by default because the majority of players do not play with it.

The confirmation mode is intended for players who want to double-check or revert a move.
The timer is there to help keep the game moving and reduce the number of extra clicks.

Of course, there are other possibilities, like a full-turn undo.
But we also want players to take their turns seriously and not rely too much on undoing moves — especially as that can slow down the game and affect the experience for others.

To make things clear, you're not playing alone and other players are waiting...

And besides, that's what the overall timer is for, with it's associated penalties if you go over.

I strongly agree with lefalaf.

Playing turn-based, I could easily have more than 24 hours to complete my turn. Then I suddenly have only five or ten seconds to confirm? Why?

And no one is waiting. That's why we play turn-based games.

I really don't understand the cost of providing an option that many players would use. (The undo/confirmation logic is already implemented. And there's already an option to turn the whole thing off for players who don't want that extra confirmation click.)

More people play in real-time than turn-based.

Undo mode is not meant to let you test all moves, see if the result suits you, and revert if it doesn't.
You don't do that in real life, and the editor wants the game to reflect real-life play.

Undo and confirmation modes are ways to prevent or fix misclicks.

Second that there should be an undo button, if people regularly make mistakes that they cannot fix they won't keep playing the game. We implemented an undo or confirm button in all AEG titles.
