Report history
Incidentally, I notice that there are two "No time limit" options, which seem to work differently (30 days/turn vs infinite days/turn?), which might benefit from clearer translations. I don't know whether this contributed to this unexpected abandonment.
Going to see if we can reproduce this behaviour:
boardgamearena.com/table?table=113211061
The email sent to Terrible Taf said "JonBthatis has invited you to play Rallyman:GT (realtime)."
Is it possible that in this mode the 30 days per turn indicated in the game configuration stage isn't adhered to because it is "real time"?
Excuse me if I've mis-understood something.
I think it should have "Real time" added to indicate that it is not simply a game with unlimited play time, or the 30 day/90 day description appearing below could have something added that this game would be played in real time.. I think this is unclear at the moment.
Having said this, is there any advantage to have an unlimited real time mode available when there is already an unlimited turn-based option available? Is this to prevent others from inviting players in real time games?
The reported game - Rallyman: GT #113157306 - (when I replayed it this morning) ended with the message:
"All players (with a positive clock) chose to abandon this game."
From the message on boardgamearena.com/table?table=113211061 the game was abandoned automatically after ~3.5h, during which time I expect both players were offline.
I'm assuming this is standard behaviour for BGA 'real time' games, and probably isn't a bug so much as confusion caused by the game set-up interface, one of a number of things that makes sense to anyone more deeply familiar with BGA's interface but confusing/unexpected to newer or more casual players.
If I could work out how I'd change this from a bug issue to UX/UI on BGA.
Why do the real time Game Speed options in Table Configuration all have "Real time - x speed" in the drop down and this no time limit real time option not say that it is Real Time? It would be useful at least to alert the user to the fact that there is a condition (being offline for more than 3h?) that will result in the automatic abandoning of the game. This is the confusing and critical factor.
I guess there must be a need for a real time and turn based 'no time limit' Game Speeds else they wouldn't have been added, it would be useful though to distinguish the difference between them, but I struggle to imagine how players might keep a real time game on this setting open for 30 days without taking a turn without it being automatically abandoned?
I think there is scope for improvement at least in the clarity of this option during game setup to make clear BGA's behaviour on this setting, so expectations are set accurately.
but in turn by turn, there is 40 days of time before the table got abandonned.
if only in 6 hours and 30 minutes the table closed, is a real time one.
Your bug has probably been fixed already, or was linked to a temporary failure of BGA service.
In any case, when filling a bug report, make sure to have an explicit title linked to the incident (ex: with error message), so other players can recognize it and vote for it.
