Do you remember when you tried to do this, and exactly which tile you were intending to select? I can only see one activation of the Ornament Grinder, by WinterTitan, during the replay of that game (but it may have been in a cancelled move, perhaps). I have tested the Ornament Grinder in another game, and been able to discard Iteration Gears, Universal Source, Electroclock source, ElectroSteam Source etc without any problems.

Sorry, I don't recall. How is source/component implemented? Are they two separate flags? Are the flags constant for each component, or does a Universal Source have its "source" flag flipped at any time? This is just a shot in the dark, not knowing the implementation details... but if the "source/component" attributes for a Universal Source are flipped when building a device, but not flipped back if the device is canceled, then that could make it so that the the Universal Source would (later) not be able to be used. I just used Universal Source as an example - I don't recall which one it was. And if my guesses about implementation are wrong, then this is all moot. I'm just trying to guess how I was able to see the issue. Perhaps a later implementation fixed it anyway so this issue no longer exists.

I just looked at that game again, and that isn't the right game. I may not have put the right game number, because there was nothing to see anyway and it wouldn't let me proceed without putting down some game number. Or perhaps I was just mistaken. In any case, I haven't run into the problem recently, but it's also rare to want to grind a source.

I just successfully used Ornament Grinder on a non-basic source. So "worksforme", too.

There are no "flags" in the database as such, each tile is identified by an enum (and a non-mutable, global structure elsewhere maps those enum into sets of properties). In the case of ornament grinder, the query which finds selectable tiles in the player's hand has an extra WHERE clause added:

"AND tile_type not in ('clockworkSource', 'electrickalSource', 'steamSource')"
