Detailed description
-
• Please copy/paste the error message you see on your screen, if applicable.
Currently, there is a major usability issue with group chat, e.g. "Greatwesterntrail players". This has been a heated topic because the following constantly happens:
* Someone discusses the game itself.
* Or, someone is looking for players.
At this point, all 3000+ players in the group receive this message as a popup notification. If they are ingame, they see the message in the game log as well! There is no way to opt out, no way to mute it, and no way to avoid these constant notifications EXCEPT leaving the group.
However, especially for alpha games, players typically want to be in the group, so they can view information about it, discuss it, etc.
Please either allow us to mute chat on a per-group basis, or have a way to do group discussion on a dedicated page (not spamming all 3000 players with popups and ingame log messages). -

Report history
The reason I don't agree with muting alpha game group chat is that it may make the 'alpha is early access' myth worse, because players will find it easier to detach themselves from a game they have notionally committed to alpha-test by habitually muting all game group chats.
[incidentally, I think the very worst group chat spammers are not members of the Reviewer group, so they must have been added manually to GWTplayers]
An ideal solution if someone wished to discuss a game, instead of thousands of players having their game logs spammed, would be to post in the game comments (which do not notify everyone).
In addition, I personally disagree with the notion of advertising games, and prefer non-notify methods of doing so, e.g. creating the room, or creating the room and posting in the game comments instead of the discussion. I have never played any multiplayer game / website that supported mass spam advertisement/invite messages, without a better way to mute, block, opt out, or prevent them from showing up while you are ingame.
I am forced to read messages of someone trying to advertise another live game, while attempting to parse the log of my current live game.

Now hopefully the mods can deal with the 1-2 problem players who brought this to a head with their obnoxious spamming.
