"It [the retreating ship] must retreat into a hex that
is equally distant or closer to one of its colonies than the hex that
it is retreating from (discounting any colony in the battle hex)."
Full text from the GMT rules below.
5.9.2 Retreat Location: A retreating spaceship must be shifted
to an adjacent hex. The hex may not contain any enemy units (in-
cluding colonies or non-combat units). A retreating ship may not
be shifted into an unexplored system. It must retreat into a hex that
is equally distant or closer to one of its colonies than the hex that
it is retreating from (discounting any colony in the battle hex). If
no legal retreat exists, the ship may not retreat. -
• Please explain what you wanted to do, what you did and what happened

On the above picture the invalid retreat hexes are marked with red arrows. They were clickable, but I didn't use any in the actual game.
Both hexes are further away from my colonies than the battle hex and are not valid retreat destinations. • Which browser are you using?

Report history
Right hex is 3 hexes away from Orion and same for battle hex.
Left hex is 5 hexes away from Prometheus and battle hex is same distance.
Unfortunately I don't see a way to clear it, so sorry for wasting your time.
Sorry, I should rather say that it is not as the players would like.
There is plenty of thread about it on BGG and some bug reports like you on BGA.
You find yourself soluce so you don't make me lose my time :)
Thanks for playing/testing.
