Marrakech: Carpet diem!
Seize the rugs.
It's time for a carpet race.
But not your average thousand nights story time.
In this multiple-awarded game from Dominique Ehrhard, designed for 2 to 4 players, you're managing Assam, a rugs salesperson who tries to outwit the competition.
Each player starts with 30 coins and an equal number of carpets.
The overall rules are really easy:
On your turn, you may rotate Assam 90 degrees. Then roll the die and move him forward as many spaces as showing (d6: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4). If Assam reaches the edge of the board, follow the curve and continue moving in the next row. If Assam lands on another player's carpet, you must pay that player 1 coin per square showing that is contiguous with the landed-on square. Then, you place one of your carpets orthogonally adjacent to Assam (but may not fully cover another carpet).
There is an optional variant available for this game that changes a really small part of the rules, but changes a lot the way it's played: you can decide that players will rotate Assam at the end of their turn (letting the next player deal with what's facing the pawn) or the classic way at the beginning of the turn (letting the next player with more control over their destiny).
There are strategic differences in playing one way or another, so you should try both until you find the one you prefer.
The game ends when all players have played all carpets. Each gets 1 coin per visible square in addition to the coins they own. The player with the most coins wins!
That's it!
