Tutorials: learn how to play board games with BGA
We love board games, we love enjoying new board games, but we (often) dislike reading rulebooks. Seems contradictory, doesn't it?
Over the past years, a lot of you asked us to provide Tutorials to learn new games in addition to the resources we alread provide: videos, rules links, ... Some of you may have noticed that since last summer there are more and more games with a tutorial available. Today, we are proud to say that this feature is mature enough to be announced officially! 🙂
As many other features on BGA, this is a community-based feature, which means that the majority of tutorials have been created by the community. Over the past months, you created or help to create tutorials for almost 130 different games! A huge thank you to all the tutorial authors for this extraordinary contribution to the hobby, and also for all players who tried, evaluated, and translated tutorials.
Here is a little Q&A to provide more information about the tutorials.
How can I see if the game has a tutorial?
On the game page, in the "How to Play" section, the first option is to watch a tutorial (or to create one, if there are none).
Which games have tutorials?
From the "Games" page, using "More Filters," you can filter the list of games to have "Games With a Tutorial" only. Or go directly there.
Why are tutorials created by the community?
The main reason is to give all games a chance to have a good tutorial.
You, as players, are the experts of the games you are explaining. You probably know these games better than us, better than the developer who implement it on BGA, sometimes better than its own designer/publisher, and you know how it should be explained.
Thus, instead of publishing a restricted set of tutorials for some games, we created a tutorial making tool which gives the possibility to anyone to create a tutorial for any game.
How can I create a tutorial?
A lot more details on tutorials are also available using this link 😉
Will you continue to improve the tutorial feature?
Yes, we are still working on improving the tutorial feature, including the tutorial building tool, the tutorial reviewing & evaluation system, and so on.
However, the feature is mature enough to be announced today, so more players can know about it. 🙂
