Tash-Kalar: Merry Christmas from CGE and BGA!

Christmas day is a very special day for every gamer. But this year, Czech Games Edition and Board Game Arena would like to make this day even more special by making a wonderful present to the gamers community. This is why we are happy and proud to introduce today Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends, a card based combat game by Vlaada Chvátil (Through the Ages, Mage Knight, Galaxy Trucker, Dungeon Lords/Petz...) published by CGE.
Tash-Kalar basic principles are quite simple. At your turn, you can take 2 actions. Each actions can be either putting a "common piece" on the board or using pieces on the board to play a card ("summon a being"). To summon a being, your pieces on the board must match the pattern describe on the being card. If this is the case, you can play the card, place a new piece on the square corresponding to the white-framed square in the pattern, and then apply the being effect described on the card.
Each players plays a "faction", and is using the corresponding being cards. In addition these cards, you can summon "Legends" which are quite hard to summon but gives you additional points and powerful effects.
You can play Tash-Kalar in two completely different game modes:
-
High Form: you must complete tasks (objective cards) before your opponent do, for example "destroy 4 enemy pieces this turn" or "connect 2 side of the board by a chain of your pieces". Each completed task gives you points.
-
Deathmatch: you score points for enemy pieces you destroyed.
Tash-Kalar is a great game with a lot of surprising cards combinations that may completely change the situation from one turn to another - like a real combat. Each faction has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the two game modes need slightly different strategies. In addition the game is quite fast, which contribute to make it very addictive: you should definitely try it!
Important: This winter, CGE released Everfrost a new faction for Tash-Kalar with new special effects. This is a really good expansion (see a review here) and all TK fans should invest in it 🙂
Tash-Kalar adaptation for Board Game Arena has been developed by Benjamin Wack using BGA Studio. There are some tricky cards on Tash-Kalar but Benjamin is an incredible developer and realized a great adaptation. You can thank him for this!
Note: at now only 2 players mode is available on BGA, but the real game can be played from 2 to 4 players.
Of course BGA would like to say a big thank you to CGE and Vlaada Chvátil for their help and this wonderful Christmas gift for the players community. The best way to thank back CGE is to visit/subscribe to their Facebook page or their Twitter feed. We also recommend to fans of Vlaada Chvátil games the very good Galaxy Trucker application (Twitter account). Finally we'd like to recommend the latest game Alchemists from CGE, which is an incredible board games that make use of a smartphone application during the game 🙂
Enjoy!
