BintangMeKaAfter days of searching empty ocean, you found an uncharted island that everyone thought was a myth and wishful thinking: [red]*Arnak*[/red]. An island told to be a place of lost civilization that left ruins full of wonders, treasures, a grand temple, magical artifacts... and monsters guarding them.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment638899711fb8f00
BintangMeKa[red]Lost Ruins of Arnak[/red] is a *worker placement*, *resource management*, and *deck-building* game where 2-4 players take turns taking action until everybody passes and ends a round. At the end of round 5, all players will add up their points [blue](this symbol: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdb692c61.44075996.jpg[/img])[/blue], and whoever has the most points wins. 2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment638899711fb8f00
BintangMeKaEverybody starts with [green]2 archeologists[/green] on their player board (meeple/worker) and [red]a deck[/red] of 6 cards: 2 Funding cards, 2 Exploration cards, and 2 Fear cards. At the beginning of the game, you'll draw 5 cards from your deck.3card-undefined638899711fb8f00card-undefined 1 player_board_84640492 3
BintangMeKaOur opponent has the first player marker, so they will take their turn first.4start-player638899711fb8f00
BintangMeKaOn your turn, you may do one of these actions: - Dig at a Site - Discover a New Site - Overcome a Guardian - Research - Buy a Card - Play a Card Let's learn about the *Dig at a Site* action.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment638899796d90c00
BintangMeKaDig at a Site means *we put one of our unused Archeologists on an empty site* by *paying the travel icon* and get the resources. At the beginning of the game, there are only [red]5 campsites[/red] you can dig at. These sites give you one of the 5 resources: - *Coin* (mainly used to buy items) - *Compass* (mainly used to discover sites and get artifacts) - *Tablet* (mainly for reusing artifacts and research) - *Arrowhead* (rarer than tablet) - *Ruby* (the rarest resource)2site-box-2638899796d90c00site-box-0 6 site-box-1 6 site-box-2 6 site-box-3 6 site-box-4 6
BintangMeKaBelow each site is a space for an archeologist and the *travel cost* needed to go there. You can see your opponent already dug at an Arrowhead site. There are 4 travel icons: *boot*, [red]jeep[/red], [green]boat[/green], and [blue]plane[/blue].4site-box-2638899796d90c00
BintangMeKa[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdbe2a9f2.06842144.jpg[/img] Travel icons can be found in the *upper left corner of your cards*. Cards can be *discarded to pay travel costs*. Your [blue]Fear card[/blue] has a *boot*. Let's use it to dig at a campsite.5card-9638899796d90c00
BintangMeKaSend your Archeologist to dig here. First, click on this campsite and then click on the Fear card to pay the boot travel cost. !!![green]Because of BGA limitations, in this tutorial you can't do a Dig at a Site action by yourself. The action will be automatically carried out when you click "continue". I've put numbered tap symbols to let you know how to do this when you play the game.[/green]6site-box-4638899796d90c00card-9 18 site-box-4 17
BintangMeKaThe campsite says *discard a card to gain a Ruby*. Let's discard this card.1card-8638899b1350ac10card-8 16
BintangMeKaYou've taken an action. End your turn now.1button_endturn638899b892c3d10button_endturn 16
BintangMeKaIt's your turn again. Now, let's do another action: *Discover a New Site* where you can send your archeologist to uncover a new site. There are 12 new sites waiting for you to discover. These new sites give better resources than the initial 5 campsites. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment638899f62d62e00
BintangMeKaThe sites are divided into [red]level 1 sites (marked in red)[/red] and [blue]level 2 sites (marked in blue)[/blue]. To Discover a New Site, you must pay the travel cost *AND 3/6 compasses* if you discover a level 1/2 site.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment638899f62d62e00site-box-5 1 site-box-6 1 site-box-7 1 site-box-8 1 site-box-9 1 site-box-10 1 site-box-11 1 site-box-12 1 site-box-13 2 site-box-14 2 site-box-15 2 site-box-16 2
BintangMeKaWe only have one compass at the moment, so let's play an [green]Exploration card[/green] to gain a compass3counter-84640492-compass638899f62d62e10card-10 16
BintangMeKaPlaying a card is one of the actions you can take, but notice that this card has a *lightning* symbol. It means that this is a *free action* and doesn't take your main action. You will also notice that throughout the game you'll find more actions that have the same lightning symbol.1card-1063889a0cc310000
BintangMeKaNow, let's play this card to gain another compass. This will give you enough compasses to discover new site.2card-1163889a0cc310010
BintangMeKaNow that we have 3 compasses, let's discover this site with a compass idol on it. Simply click on this site and then click on your last Funding card to pay the jeep travel cost. [green](this action will be automatically done due to BGA limitation)[/green]1site-box-1063889a0f8752a00card-7 18 site-box-10 17
BintangMeKaNote that *discarding a card to pay travel costs didn't activate its effect*. We discarded this funding card to pay the Jeep travel cost, so we didn't get a coin.1card-763889a1b2abad00
BintangMeKaWhen you're discovering a site, 3 things happen: 1. You find an *Idol*. You get the bonus on the idol (in this case, a compass) and the Idol goes to our player board. Each idol is worth *3 points* at the end of the game. [green]Level 2 sites give you 2 idols and a bonus.[/green] 2. You find a *new site* and gain the resources (tablet and arrowhead) 3. You disturb the *Guardian* (the giant bat)2site-box-1063889a1b2abad00
BintangMeKaLet's learn how to *Overcome the Guardian* next turn. But before that, let's talk about Travel Hierarchy. 3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889a1b2abad00
BintangMeKaWhen you don't have the needed travel icon, you can use another travel icon that is higher in the hierarchy. You can see the diagram below: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdba0e6e3.14313732.jpg[/img] If you don't have or don't want to use your travel icon, you can pay 2 coins to *Hire a Pilot* by clicking this button when it appears: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdbc2d061.80131824.jpg[/img]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889a1b2abad00
BintangMeKaIf you want to see that diagram again, click this [red]Player Aid[/red] where you can also see a brief explanation of all symbol effects we can find in this game.5aidbutton63889a1b2abad00aidbutton 6
BintangMeKaLet's learn about the next action: *Overcome a Guardian* To overcome a guardian, we need to pay the resources listed below it. In this case, a plane and an arrowhead. When you're able to pay it, you will receive a one-time boon that can be used anytime in the upper right corner of the guardian. We have an arrowhead but we are a coin short to Hire a Pilot. This is where our newly-found Idol can be useful.1site-box-1063889a67e8f3900
BintangMeKaIf you look at your player board, you can find the idol you just got with a *3 points* symbol. There are also 4 slots with a lightning symbol and a *1-4 points* symbol above it. You can put your Idol into one of the empty slots and gain one of the five rewards offered by the idol on the left (you can hover over the rewards for more detail) !!![green]using an idol covers the points on the slot. Covered points will not be scored at the end of the game.[/green] Let's click the *coin and compass* so that we can Hire a Pilot.2idol-bonus-coins-8464049263889a67e8f3910idol-bonus-jewel-84640492 6 idol-bonus-arrowhead-84640492 12 idol-bonus-coins-84640492 6 idol-bonus-card-84640492 1
BintangMeKaBecause Idol effects are a free action (marked by lightning bolts), we can *Overcome a Guardian* this turn. Click on the guardian and click on "Hire a Pilot" button to use 2 coins as a plane symbol. [green](Once again, this action will be done automatically due to BGA limitations)[/green]1site-box-1063889a6c96bf600
BintangMeKaYou have tamed/appeased the Guardian! each Guardian you've overcome is worth *5 points* at the end of the game. You can find how many Guardian you have here.1counter-84640492-guardian63889a73b4fc100
BintangMeKaAfter you have overcome a guardian, they will give you a one-time boon that you can find at the bottom of the player board. This boon means "exile a card" (don't return to deck) Let's do it now to exile the Fear card since it doesn't have an effect and is worth -1 point (you can find how many points a card gives in its lower right corner) *Click on the exile symbol, and then the Fear card in your discard*2card-undefined63889a73b4fc110
BintangMeKaAt this point, we've learned how to: - Dig at a Site, along with travel icons - Play a Card - Discover a New Site, along with travel hierarchy - Overcome a Guardian, along with idols and Guardian's boons We're halfway through the tutorial!! End your turn now.1button_endturn63889a7928ee610
BintangMeKaLet's talk about the 4th action: *Research* On the right side of the board is the Research Track. It shows your and opponents' progress in finding the lost Bird Temple. This is where most of your points come from. On the [red]bottom of the track[/red] are your research tokens: Discovery (magnifying glass) and Documentation (Journal). You can see your opponent already made their way up.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889a8863d6300research-box-0 1
BintangMeKaTo go up the research track, you must pay the resources. You can [blue]pay a compass and arrowhead to go left[/blue] or [red]ruby to go right[/red] Since we already have a Ruby, *click on the right square to put your glass up.*2research-box-263889a8863d6310research-box-1 7 research-box-2 6
BintangMeKaFor each Research action, you can only *advance one of your tokens to a connected space above it*. One rule in advancing on the research track: [blue]Your Journal cannot go higher than your Magnifying Glass[/blue], which is why your Glass is up on the track first.1research-box-263889a909e25600
BintangMeKaWhen your token advances to a new row, you *gain a bonus listed on the right side of the row* ([red]The upper bonus if Magnifying Glass[/red] and [blue]the lower bonus if Journal[/blue]). [green]Since your Glass advanced to the 1st row, you gain a coin.[/green] The number next to the bonus is the *points you get if your token is in that row at the end of the game*. Now let's take a look at the rest of the track.2glass-tooltip-163889a909e25600research-box-2 6 book-tooltip-1 7 glass-tooltip-1 6
BintangMeKaSome research spaces, [red]like these,[/red] have special bonuses for the first player to reach them.3research-box-463889a909e25600research-box-3 6 research-box-4 6 research-box-6 6 research-box-7 6 research-box-8 6 research-box-10 6 research-box-11 6
BintangMeKaThis row is for *Magnifying Glasses* only. When your Glass reaches this row, [blue]You've found The Bird Temple[/blue]. It will *occupy the empty spot with the highest points*. There's also a number of secret bonus tiles equal to the number of players here. You can choose one of the remaining bonuses. When your glass is in this row, you can also, as an action, explore the temple to find [blue]Temple Tiles.[/blue]4research-box-1463889a909e25600research-box-14 6
BintangMeKaThe Temple Tiles are the stacks of bronze, silver, and gold tiles on top of the research track. They're worth 2, 6, and 11 points. Below the stacks are the costs (coin & 2 tablets, ruby, compass & arrowhead). For a *bronze tile*, you only pay the cost directly under it. For a *silver tile*, you pay the 2 costs under it. For a *golden tile*, you pay all 3 costs.5research-box-1463889a909e25600
BintangMeKaNow let's end your turn. After this, we will see what happens when everybody has passed.6button_endturn63889a909e25610
BintangMeKaYou can't do any more actions, so let's pass and wait for a new round.1button_pass63889a9b3998610
BintangMeKaAfter this, the opponent is going to pass. When everybody passes, a *new round begins*. The round is marked by this [blue]moon staff[/blue]. On the right of the moon staff is the item row and on the left is the artifact row. When the round ends, cards on the [red]immediate left and right of the staff[/red] will be *exiled* and the staff will move right to spot number II. And then the row will be refilled.1arn-staff63889ae42726800card-48 1 card-14 1
BintangMeKaThis means that as the game goes on, the artifact row will get longer and the item row will get shorter.2arn-staff63889ae42726800
BintangMeKaAll players *retrieve their archeologists* and add a fear card to their discard pile for each guardian still in their space.3site-box-463889ae42726800
BintangMeKaThen if players have any cards left in their hand, they *choose to keep or discard them*. After that, all players' *discard piles are shuffled* and put under their deck. All players *draw cards* until they have 5 cards in their hand. Finally, the *first player marker is passed* to the next player. Let's watch it all happen.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889ae42726800
BintangMeKaA new round begins and you're the first player. For this round, we will learn the last 2 basics: *assistants* and the 5th action *buying a card*. First, let's send an archeologist to *Dig at the Site* we just discovered last round (paying the jeep icon) and end our turn. !!![green]You don't have to pay compasses and meet a guardian again since the site is already discovered.[/green]1site-box-1063889ae724adc00
BintangMeKaNow, let's *Research* with our Journal token. Just click here. [green](the game will know what token to move)[/green]1research-box-163889b406342210research-box-1 16
BintangMeKaThe bonus when you get your Journal to the [blue]1st and 2nd row[/blue] of the track is you [blue]get an *Assistant*[/blue]. You can choose one of the assistants from the [red]stack below the research track[/red]. Let's pick the assistant on the *left*.1assistant-1163889b4a4eaac10assistant-11 1 assistant-8 1 assistant-6 1 book-tooltip-1 7 book-tooltip-2 7
BintangMeKaYour assistant goes to the right side of your player board. You can have at most 2 assistants. In the middle of the assistant is the effect they can give you. This one lets you upgrade either a tablet to an arrowhead or an arrowhead to a ruby.1assistant-1163889b5da307700
BintangMeKaThe effect on the gold ribbon is for when the assistant gets an upgrade. We'll talk about it later. For now, *let's use the assistant to upgrade a tablet to an arrowhead.*2assistant-1163889b5da307710
BintangMeKaYour assistant is now *exhausted*. At the *beginning of each round*, the assistant will be *refreshed*. Now let's talk about [blue]upgrading an assistant.[/blue]1assistant-1163889b6eb5aa200
BintangMeKaAs you can see here, the bonus for having your Journal reach the 3rd and 4th row of the track is to [red]upgrade an assistant[/red]. When an assistant gets upgraded, they are *flipped to their golden side (with a better effect listed on the golden ribbon) and refreshed* like picture below: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdb884190.15073036.jpg[/img]2book-tooltip-463889b6eb5aa200book-tooltip-3 6 book-tooltip-4 6
BintangMeKaWe can still do a main action. Let's *Research* with our glass. Since our glass isn't connected to the left space on the second row, the only choice we have is to [red]pay a tablet and the arrowhead[/red] we just got from our assistant.3research-box-463889b6eb5aa210research-box-4 6
BintangMeKaNow, we have come to our last action: *Buy cards*. You may have already seen our opponent do this a bunch of times. There are 2 types of cards: [red]Items[/red] and [blue]artifacts[/blue]. An [red]Item[/red] is bought with coins. You can see the cost in the lower left corner of the card. (and its points at the end of the game in the lower right corner). *Let's buy this card*.1card-5663889b8aa45e810card-56 1
BintangMeKaYour bought item card goes to the bottom of the deck. Then, the the item row collapses toward the moon staff and then gets refilled. 1card-5563889b911f5d900
BintangMeKaNow, let's try getting an [blue]artifact[/blue]. We must pay for artifacts with compasses, not coins. So let's play our 2 Exploration cards.1card-1663889ba14366600
BintangMeKa... and get this artifact with 4 compasses.1card-1663889bc2a7a8610
BintangMeKaUnlike item card, *You must immediately use artifact cards when you acquire them, so they end up in your discard pile*. This artifact gives you 2 arrowheads and a fear card. At the end of the round, artifacts here will be shuffled into the bottom of the deck.1card-1663889bc9cb80400card-16 1
BintangMeKaWhen you want to *play artifact from your hand*, you need to *pay a tablet* (there's a tiny tablet symbol on the left side of all artifacts to remind you this [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ecdc0775a7.19163276.jpg[/img]). This cost does not apply when you first buy the card.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889bc9cb80400
BintangMeKaThen just like the item row, the artifact row collapses toward the moon staff and then gets refilled.3card-1563889bc9cb80400
BintangMeKaAnd that's all the basic of Lost Ruins of Arnak. Keep playing like this until the end of round 5. At the end of the game all players sum all of their points from: - How far the Magnifying Glass and Journal go on the Research Track (the points on the right of the track) - Temple Tiles - Idols and uncovered Idol slots on the player board - Guardians - Cards (Items, Artifacts, and Fears)1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment63889bcf3fd0900
BintangMeKaNow you're ready to explore [red]Lost Ruins of Arnak[/red]. Don't forget to consult this *Player Aid* or just *hover over everything* if you need help understanding the symbols or a brief explanation of everything we've learned. Good Luck and Have Fun! :D2aidbutton63889bcf3fd0900
