_Rita_Welcome to Boomerang: USA!
We are going to travel around the country, visit a lot of *tourist sites*, see different species of *animals*, try various *activities*, and collect *Americana*!
All these will be turned into points and the player who collects the most by the end of the *4th round* is the winner of the game.
Are you ready for an adventure? 🙂1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
_Rita_Players start each round with *7 cards* in their hands. The game follows a *drafting* method: you pick a card, place it in front of you, then pass the remaining cards to the player on your left. You keep doing this until you run out of cards which means the end of that round.
The first card you pick is called your *Throw* card. This one is only revealed to your opponents at the end of the round, while the other cards you pick later will be kept *face up* from the beginning.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
_Rita_Let's pick the highlighted card as our *Throw* card, then click "Confirm your selection" at the top.
Then we'll take a closer look at it to see what the game really is about.3my_hand_stock_item_2010my_hand_stock_item_2 1
_Rita_Great!
Time to keep my promise and familiarise you with the components. 🙂
You must have guessed by now that the cards you see at the top are the ones you are currently holding in your hand...
Below that you see your *map*. That is where your scores will be counted throughout the 4 rounds.
You are collecting your cards [green]*under your map*.[/green] Do you see your throw card there? :)
If you scroll further down you'll find *your opponent's* map, and their cards.
You can only see the [blue] back of the card [/blue] they just picked, because this was the first one (the throw card) so it remains hidden until the end of this round.
However, you'll be able to take a look at all cards they pick later during the round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428 3 table_stock_92260528_item_0 2
_Rita_Now let's take a closer look at the throw card you picked...
(If you can't see your throw card because of this text box, you can look at any other card in the game, you'll find the same elements on them, I'm just using our throw card as an example)
At the *top left corner* of the card there is a number (3). This is called the *throw number*, and each card is numbered somewhere between 1 and 7. 2table_stock_86588428_item_2622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428_item_2 1
_Rita_The *last card* you'll keep (get from your opponent) at the end of the round will be called your *Catch* card.
When scoring at the end of the round, you'll get points *equal to the number* on your* throw *card as long as the number on your throw card is *not bigger than* the number on your *catch* card. If your Catch card is smaller than your Throw card, you'll score 0 points.3table_stock_86588428_item_2622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428_item_2 1
_Rita_For example:
right now the throw number on our Throw card is 3. If we get a Catch card with number 3 or higher on it at the end of this round, we will score 3 points. However, if we get a catch card with number 1 or 2 on it, we won't score points.4table_stock_86588428_item_2622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428_item_2 1
_Rita_Below that you'll find two symbols: a *yellow* and a [green]green[/green] one. If you take a look at the other cards at the top you'll notice that there are also [blue]blue [/blue] symbols on some of them. These all have a different rule of scoring that I'll explain later.
For now it's enough to know what they are called:
Blue: *Activities*
Yellow: *Animals*
Green: *Americana*5table_stock_86588428_item_2622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428_item_2 1
_Rita_Finally, under the two symbols, there's a *letter* (U).
Each site is associated with a letter (or with a # or @; because there are more sites than letters in the alphabet). If you take a look at your map, you'll see them there too.
At the end of each round we are going to mark the sites we've visited (collected the cards of) on our map. *Each site you "visit" is worth 1 point at the end of the game.*
[tip] You can "visit" the same sites in later rounds, but they are only scored once.6table_stock_86588428_item_2622f11f01c95b00table_stock_86588428_item_2 1
_Rita_On your map, you should also notice that each region of the US is indicated with a differrent colour. In each region there is also a number in a yellow *star*. These are bonus points awarded to the *first player who visits all the sites in that region*.7scoresheet_86588428622f11f01c95b00
_Rita_In addition, notice that the sites are connected by pathways. When you have visited two towns that are connected on the map, a line will be drawn between them at the end of the round. If you are the *1st/2nd/3rd* player to *connect* any town on the *west coast* with any town on the *east coast* with a *continuous path*, you will also get a bonus of *7/3/1 points*.
(The coastal sites are circled in blue for clarity)
[tip] If more players achieve the same bonus at the end of a round, they *all* get the corresponding points.
All this scoring is indicated at the *bottom left* corner of your *map*.8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f11f01c95b00
_Rita_Great!
Now you know the scoring of the *Throw and Catch* cards and the *Tourist sites*.
Let me quickly take you to the end of the first round to show you the scoring of *Americana*, *Animals*, and *Activities*...9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f11f01c95b00
_Rita_First of all, you can easily follow both your and your opponent's collected symbols up [red]here[/red].
Let's start with *animals* (yellow symbols)...
For each species you'll find a small number under its symbol. That is the score you get if you collect a *pair* of it by the *end of the round*.
Right now we have two *bears* so we can expect *5 points*.
[tip] You can also collect two pairs of the same kind1player_board_86588428_row1622f12da39c9d00player_board_86588428_row1 1
_Rita_The second one is [green]*Americana*[/green] (green symbols).
Here, you'll get the points you see on the symbols, as long as these are *more than what you collected in the previous round*. If you collect less Americana than in the round before, you'll score 0 points!
[tip] Only the round *just before* the current one counts, earlier ones don't!
Example:
So far, we have collected 2 points from Americana this round. As there was no previous round, we are obviously going to get these points (or maybe even more, depending on our catch card). In the next round however, we'll need to collect *at least* 3 points from Americana, if we want to get them. (We might need to collect even more if we get more Americana on our catch card at the end of this round.)2player_board_86588428_row1622f12da39c9d00player_board_86588428_row1 1
_Rita_Last, but not least there are [blue]*Activities*[/blue].
At the end of each round you can decide whether you'd like to score *one* of your Activities or not...
!!! You can only score *one* activity per round and *each *activity can be chosen *only once* during the game, but scoring activities is always optional!
When scoring an activity you get *0/2/4/7/10/15 points* for collecting * 1/2/3/4/5/6 cards* with the chosen symbol.3player_board_inner_ff0000622f12da39c9d00player_board_inner_ff0000 1
_Rita_We already have 3 hiking symbols which means 4 points, but with a 4th one we'd score 7!
So let's pick the card with the hiking symbol on it...4my_hand_stock_item_21622f12da39c9d10my_hand_stock_item_21 1
_Rita_The last card we received from our opponent was kept automatically. That is our *Catch* card, remember? :)
Our Throw card had number 3, and our Catch card has a 5, so we're gonna score 3 points!
Our opponent's Throw card is also revealed now... They picked 2 at the beginning and we gave them a 1 at the end, so they won't get Throw & Catch points...
Now at the end of the first round we can choose to score hiking...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f12fdecaf600activity_icon_hiking 1
_Rita_This is the end of the first round.
Cards are now reshuffled and dealt again...
If there are less than 4 players in the game, the cards that have just been used will be shuffled and go to the *bottom of the deck* before dealing to make sure that all cards appear in the game.
We have also discussed all the rules, but before I let you go please hold on a little longer and let me show you what happened on our map.
You'll need to close the "Round Results" window in order to see it...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f130ed08b900
_Rita_So let's see what happened (if you can't see our map, try to look at our opponent's):
First of all, all the sites we visited were crossed out. There were 7 of them, so you can see 7 points at the *bottom left* corner of your map.
Below that we would see our bonuses for visiting all the sites in a region or connecting the two coasts, but we don't have any of those yet...
However, we have collected a few adjacent sites, so you can already see that a line was drawn between those.2scoresheet_86588428622f130ed08b900
_Rita_The rest of the scoring is done on the right side of the map:
1) Your [blue] *Throw & Catch* [/blue] scores are marked in the first row
2) [green] *Americana* [/green] are marked in the second row
3) The 3rd row shows *Animals*.
4) Below that you'll see the *Activities*. Here, you can also find a small reference of how they are scored.
5) The last row is for [red]*Tourist Sites*[/red]
6) And finally you'll see the *sum* of all your scores at the bottom 3scoresheet_86588428622f130ed08b9003600d0f6-1820-4b24-8343-f93a4cfa27cf 2 3944cb34-4b3a-4f3a-8fe4-9f3b7037b1a9 3 d182fea1-7905-4596-8ba1-7106ec25517d 4 732a3e75-90a5-4d0d-89e4-29f4732337f4 1
_Rita_And that's all you need to know! :)
Now let's go and explore the US!
Safe travels!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment622f130ed08b900
