joezg*Perudo* is a traditional game which is played with some dice and cups. Several published editions exist with different names such as Dudo, Perudo, Liar's Dice or Bluff. There may be *slight differences* between editions, but all have the same general structure. 1mycup_wrap001
joezgHere is your cup. *Only you* can see it. Throughout the game you must cleverly deduce, bluff, and try to read your opponents. By guessing incorrectly, players will lose dice and ultimately be eliminated from the game. The *last player* with dice will be the *winner*. 2mycup_wrap000
joezgAt the start of every round, all of the players roll their dice secretly. The [red]red player[/red] begins by bidding five "twos". [red]Red[/red] is betting that there are at least five dice with the value of 2 amongst *all rolled dice*.1bidding_die_843533196140990392fa800
joezg... but there is a catch. This funny looking dice is called Paco and counts as *any* face value. So in *your cup*, there are three 3s, two 4s and 5s and one 2 and 6. 2die_4614099039355a00die_2 1
joezgSince you do not have many 2s but you do have a lot of 3s in your cup, it is safe to switch the bet to five 3s. Please select the die with value 3 in your bidding area and select *place bid* above.3biddingbox-bid6140990393afd10die_bid_3 1 bidding_box 10
joezgBidding continues with [green]green[/green] bidding six 2s. A player *must* either raise the number of dice or the dice value being bet. Five 5s would be a legal bet as well as six 1s. However, not five 1s, as it does not raise either the number of dice nor dice value bid.1playertables61409923074f500
joezgIt is your turn again. Since you have only one 2, there is no chance that your opponents have six 2s (including Pacos) between them. Or is there? ;) The only way to find out is to call dudo. This will *end the round*. All players will reveal their cups and we will see if there are indeed seven 2s in them. Please click *call dudo*.1doubt_button614099c34bceb10
joezgYou were right! There were only six 2s. Your dudo was successful, so [red]red[/red] loses one die. If there were indeed at least seven 2s, you would have lost a die instead. 1popin_tableWindow_contents614099ca368f000
joezgThe new round starts by rolling all of the dice. The player who lost their die in previous round is the first player to make a bet.1bidding_die_84353319614099f18247000
joezg*Great!* You have a lot of Pacos! But can you bid them? Yes! However, there are some *specific rules* about bidding Pacos: - You can *never* start the bidding with Pacos. - When you bid Pacos you may *decrease the number of dice bet* by half (rounded up). Please bet 3 Pacos right now! (Select Paco in the bidding area and click thee "place bid" button above.)2bidding_box614099f182d5c10
joezgPlayers can *always* switch back from Pacos to *any* other value; however, the minimum number of dice bid must be *twice the pacos plus 1*. In this case [green]green[/green] bids a minimum number of seven 6s. He could have chosen any other face value. [tip] It is also possible to raise Pacos themselves.1bidding_die_8435332461409a39199ea00
joezg[red]Red[/red] couldn't have expected four 6s in our cup! He called dudo, but there were eight 6s in cups. [red]Red[/red] loses one die.1popin_tableWindow_contents61409a5939cbb00
joezgNow think of what you would do before going to the next step.1mycup_wrap61409a7159b0c00
joezgYou can do anything! Even bluff. Here you have bid four 6s although you have more 2s. 1mycup_wrap61409a8949ec800
joezgThe primary goal in Perudo is not to lose dice. So here are some useful tips on deciding what to do. [tip] Try to bid as safely as possible. [tip] Try to bid in such a way that bidding doesn't come back to you. [tip] Try to leave an easy bid for the next opponent as they might take it instead of risking to call dudo.2mycup_wrap61409a8949ec800
joezgBidding two Pacos or five 2s are sound alternatives here, as both are pretty safe and would increase the chance of play not getting back to you. Bidding four 6s leaves an easy bid of two Pacos for [green]green[/green]. 3mycup_wrap61409a8949ec800
joezgBidding seven 6s here is potentially safer than seven 2s since [green]green[/green] raised, but it is not a clear cut.1mycup_wrap61409ac2121de00
joezgYou can see that calling dudo would have been the right choice, but it was very unlikely that your opponents would have no Pacos.1popin_tableWindow_contents61409acd2131100
joezgLet's go a bit further to explain the last few rules.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61409acd21bcd00
joezgPlay continues normally until one player is left with only one die. When this happens *for the first time* for a player, they get one *palifico* round.1dice_nr_icon_8435331961409bd9a10a700
joezgIn a palifico round, player can even start with Pacos. But Pacos are not wild in palifico. Each die face value counts on its own. Player can even start with Pacos.2bidding_die_8435331961409bd9a10a700
joezgWhat is this?! I cannot change the face value? That is right, because this is palifico. The only thing you can do is raise or call dudo. Please raise by bidding 2 Pacos.3biddingbox-bid61409bd9a1a4c10
joezgThis was very unlucky for [red]red[/red], especially since they bluffed with the Paco opening. They tried to catch [green]green[/green] unaware, but fell by their own sword.1popin_tableWindow_contents61409c0b3eb4300
joezgThere is one last undiscussed option you have. You can call *calza*. You are gambling that there is *exactly* that number of dice in the cups. If you succeed, you will get one precious die back.1calza_button61409c4cad72300
joezgCalza is a gambling move. It is usually used in late game. Although it may not be the best move here, please call Calza now.2calza_button61409c4cad72310
joezgThere was a decent chance of [green]green[/green] having exactly one 6, but unfortunately they had more. Your die is lost. [tip] with less dice towards the end of the game, Calza can become the most likely option, so keep it in mind. 1popin_tableWindow_contents61409d959e98500
joezgThe game will end when the penultimate player loses all of their dice. The remaining player is the winner! This ends the tutorial! Thanks for using it to learn the game.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment61409da0a7fef00
