Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed20e7cd36.48381488.jpg[/img] Three expeditions are departing from Northern Europe simultaneously! Your goal is to steer them toward your own personal destinations! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer!!! Before we dive in, I recommend that you adjust your zoom settings so that *cards* line up on the *sides* of the board, not along the bottom. If they line up along the bottom, some text boxes and instructions may not align as intended.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEach player was dealt *12/12/9/9/9* destination cards for a *2/3/4/5* player game. Each card corresponds to a different location on the board. Our 12 cards are located along the *left edge* of the game board.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801cf99883800
NekonyancerIf you [blue]hover[/blue] over any of our cards with your mouse, the game board will fade away so we can see all our destinations clearly! In this tutorial, they show up as [green]*big green dots!*[/green] Don't get them confused with the smaller green dots! 😅2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801cf99883800
NekonyancerThere are also six [red]public destination[/red] cards. These correspond to the [blue]*dark purple dots*[/blue] on the board.3destination-card-45-front64801cf99883800
NekonyancerThe game will end when one player successfully steers the three expeditions through all twelve of their destinations *OR* the expeditions run out of gas. [green]Then the points are counted up, and whoever has the most points wins![/green]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801cf99883800
NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, players will take turns revealing four of their destinations, one at a time. A token of their color will be placed on each one, marking them as their *Key Locations.* [red]Our opponent already revealed this one in South America![/red]5city12264801cf99883800
Nekonyancer*Click on [red]this one![/red]* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed21136c93.30650303.jpg[/img] It's the fifth from the bottom.6city10764801cf99883811
Nekonyancer*Good!* We revealed Novosibirsk as one of our Key Locations and placed a token on the board! I know you couldn't tell what location that card corresponded to, but don't worry. If you start a real game, you'll find that the cards are helpfully labeled! [blue]I'll skip through the rest of the Key Location reveals...[/blue]1city15664801d0b5a79800
Nekonyancer[red]Alright! Each player revealed 4 locations, so it's time to start the game for real![/red] On your turn, you must advance one of the three expeditions. This means placing an *arrow* on the board along one of the *dotted lines.* Our opponent will show us how it works!1city10064801de3103e000
NekonyancerCan you see [blue]*the arrow*[/blue] he placed? I know it's a little small. If you like, use the [red]*magnifying glass*[/red] in the top-left corner and then drag the map around so you can take a closer look!1route-spaces-route12-space064801e6aa906400route-spaces-route12-space0 2 zoom-button 12
NekonyancerAnyway, the arrow took the blue expedition from the starting location to [red]*Rome.*[/red] The next time someone places a blue arrow, they'll have to travel from Rome to a new location!2city13264801e6aa906400city132 1
NekonyancerOur opponent ended their turn, so now it's our turn. Let's launch the *yellow* expedition! First, *click on the yellow arrow at the top!* All the possible paths should now be highlighted. As you can see, it's possible to take this expedition along the same path as the blue one, toward Rome. They don't block each other. *Click on the path that travels East, toward [red]this location.[/red]*1city21264801e6d9d0ee10placeArrow_button_yellow 16 city212 1 route-spaces-route540-space0 16
NekonyancerExcellent! You're a natural at this. [red]Wait a second... BGA says we can place another arrow?[/red] *Oh!* It's because our last arrow reached a [blue]*blue dot.*[/blue] Whenever you advance an expedition to a blue dot, you can take another action for free!1city21264801e79cbcff00
NekonyancerWe need to continue going east - all our Key Locations are there - but let's make a short detour north, to *Zagorsk.* We never revealed that destination, but we still have to go there! *Place a yellow arrow on the north-east path, toward Zagorsk.*2city21264801e79cbcff10placeArrow_button_yellow 16 route-spaces-route546-space0 16
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* Since an expedition reached one of our destinations, we were able to play the card from our hand. [green]This happens even when our opponents move the expeditions![/green] By the way, the card is still on the table. You'll see it if you scroll down a little.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801ea4cfed000
NekonyancerNext, take a look at our [red]*player information panel. *[/red] There's one *star* (victory point) under our name now! [green]That's because each destination card you play from your hand is worth one point![/green]2player_board_inner_30b0e164801ea4cfed000player_board_inner_30b0e1 6
NekonyancerI know what you're thinking - [blue]"But Nekonyancer, we needed to continue east to reach all our Key Locations, and backtracking is impossible in this game!"[/blue] I don't remember telling you that last part, but you're right. This expedition will have to continue northward... [red]Unless we use a *ticket.*[/red]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801ea4cfed000
NekonyancerEach player started the game with [red]*3 tickets.*[/red] [blue]Each ticket can be used to take one of the following actions:[/blue] *- Advance* an expedition. *- Remove* the last arrow of an expedition. *- Swap* one of your destination cards.6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801ea4cfed000tickets-counter-11941354-wrapper 1 tickets-counter-92143487-wrapper 1
Nekonyancer*Click on the ticket icon!*7expTicket-button64801ea4cfed010
NekonyancerAny removeable arrows now have Xs on them. Note that we can only remove the [blue]*last yellow arrow*[/blue] - the [red]*first one*[/red] is stuck! *Click on the yellow X to remove the arrow!*1city21264801eb38357e10route-spaces-route539-space0 1 remove-arrow-handle-545 2
NekonyancerGood! And now we get... [green]Another turn?![/green] *Oh, I see!* When [red]*this arrow*[/red] became the new last arrow of the expedition, it triggered the blue dot again! Awesome!1city21264801eba44f6600route-spaces-route539-space0 1
Nekonyancer*Place a yellow arrow on the eastern path, toward the Caspian Sea!*2city15364801eba44f6610placeArrow_button_yellow 16 route-spaces-route542-space0 16
NekonyancerThat was a busy first turn. If we wanted, we could keep going by using *another* ticket. [red]You can use up to 2 tickets on a single turn![/red] Mm... nah. *Click on "End my turn" at the top!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801ec93b57810pass_button 16
NekonyancerGood. Now our opponent will take his turn...1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801ecdadde900
NekonyancerAlright, this turn, let's check one of our Key Locations off the list! Er, off the board. *Advance the yellow expedition north-east, toward Novosibirsk!*1city15664801f10f380610placeArrow_button_yellow 16 route-spaces-route201-space0 16
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* We played the destination card from our hand, earning one point, and we also removed the *Key Location token* from the board, earning another point!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801f4cebd6000
NekonyancerNext, take a look at how far the [blue]blue expedition progressed.[/blue] They've almost reached *Douala!* Remember, purple dots represent *public destinations.* If we are the ones to advance an expedition there, we can claim it for ourselves!2city13664801f4cebd6000
NekonyancerWe'll need another ticket for this... *Click on the ticket icon!*3expTicket-button64801f4cebd6010
Nekonyancer*Advance the blue expedition southward, to Douala!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801f5285b5210placeArrow_button_blue 16 route-spaces-route144-space0 16
Nekonyancer[blue]Excellent! That's another point for us.[/blue] After we claimed it, another public destination was revealed to take Douala's place, so there will always be six available.1destination-card-4-front64801f5ac33e300
NekonyancerHmm... you know, the blue expedition is very close to a red dot now... *Use another ticket!*2expTicket-button64801f5ac33e310
NekonyancerWhen you advance an expedition to a red dot, you get another ticket! *Place a blue arrow on the southern path!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801f734587a10placeArrow_button_blue 16 route-spaces-route357-space0 16
Nekonyancer*Great!* We used a ticket to get a ticket. This might have seemed like a waste of time, but by doing this, we dragged the blue expedition away from our opponent's [red]*key location!*[/red]1city14164801f7a0f3c400city141 1
NekonyancerThere's one more thing I have to mention about arrows - *loops.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed2166e759.53997628.jpg[/img] When a loop is formed, whoever formed it can immediately place another arrow of the same color on the board, branching off any of that expedition's previously visited locations!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801f7a0f3c400
NekonyancerNext turn! There's just one more thing I need to show you. It will require our last ticket. *Click on the ticket icon!*1expTicket-button64801fbf6a12110
NekonyancerI'll show you how to trade a destination now. Click on *Trade one destination!*1drawDestinations_button64801fd6c0e9610
NekonyancerIf you scroll down a little bit, you'll see that we drew [red]*two new destinations,*[/red] but they were not placed in our hand. Now we can select one of the destinations in our hand and *swap* it with one of the new ones.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64801fda649b600destination-stock_item_62 1 destination-stock_item_77 1
NekonyancerWe probably want to get rid of a destination that's far from the beaten path. Hmm... how about Niagara falls? *Select [red]this card[/red]* (third from the top.) [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed213ccb27.12290681.jpg[/img] *Select the new destination on the left.* (Persepolis.) *Click on "Trade selected destinations" at the top!*2destination-stock_item_6264801fda649b610
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* By replacing Niagara Falls with Persepolis, we made it much easier for us to finish all our destinations.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64802048dc49800
NekonyancerAlright, I think you've seen enough! [blue]The game can end in two ways:[/blue] *1.* Someone completes all their destinations. *2.* All three expeditions run out of arrows. Either way, play will continue until all players have had the same number of turns (they may have to pass). [green]Then we go to scoring![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64802048dc49800
Nekonyancer[blue]Each player scores...[/blue] • 1 point per destination visited. • 1 point per key location token collected. • - 1 point per destination card still in their hand. • - 1 point per key location token still on the board. [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64802048dc49800
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Expeditions Around the World!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Mizutismask* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64802048dc49800
