NekonyancerIn *Fliptoons,* players compete to have the most fame in their grid of toon cards. Each turn, players shuffle their toon cards, flip them into a grid, and use their Fame to hire new toons or dismiss cards in their grid. Once any player’s flip generates 30 Fame, all players do a Final Flip, and [green]the player with the most Fame wins the game![/green]2jj-custom-controls

Nekonyancer[blue]Each round is made up of 4 phases:[/blue] *1. Flip.* *2. Check Fame.* *3. Market.* *4. Cleanup.* [blue]*Phase 1: Flip*[/blue]---Each player was given an identical deck of 6 starter cards. In this phase, those cards are shuffled together and then *flipped* onto a 3x2 grid.3maintitlebar_content

Nekonyancer[blue]*Phase 2: Check Fame*[/blue]---Each card has a *Fame value* shown along the bottom of the card, along with any special abilities it might have. For instance, the Snail is worth 2 Fame.5fl-toon-card-17-front

NekonyancerThe Dragonfly is worth 1 Fame per unique adjacent card. Our Dragonfly has 3 unique cards adjacent to it (Skunk, Caterpillar, Bee), so it's worth *3* Fame. However, our opponent's Dragonfly is only worth *2* Fame this round. Too bad for them!6fl-toon-card-57-front

NekonyancerIf you count up all the Fame provided by our six cards, you'll find that they add up to *6* (2 from the Snail, 1 from the Bee, 3 from the Dragonfly). BGA put that total [red]*here.*[/red] Our opponent ended up with only [blue]*5!*[/blue]7fl-player-area-fame-92143487

NekonyancerWe'll start by learning more about the *Market* - the row of 5 cards across the top of your screen. Each card has a price (in Fame) listed above it. For instance, the Ostrich costs *3* Fame, and the Alligator costs *15.* The cards that are too expensive for us have been faded out.9player_name_92143487

NekonyancerWe have *6* Fame, so we can easily afford the Ostrich. Let's buy it! *Click on the Ostrich!* [green](Step 10/50)[/green]10fl-toon-card-62-front

Nekonyancer*Good!* The Ostrich went onto our Draw pile. We'll see it next round! We have 3 more Fame and 1 more Action. Unfortunately, the "3" slot in the Market won't be refreshed until the end of our turn, and the cards in other slots are too expensive for us.1fl-toon-card-1002-back

NekonyancerWe can still make good use of our remaining Fame by *dismissing* a low-value Toon, which will allow a better Toon to take the spotlight later! Dismissing a Toon in our grid usually costs *5* Fame... but Caterpillars can be dismissed for only *3!* *Click on this Caterpillar to dismiss it!*2fl-toon-card-49-front

Nekonyancer*Great!* The Caterpillar is now in our *"Dismissed"* pile. We won't have to worry about it cluttering up our Grid again. You can click on the pile at any time to see what cards are in it. NekonyancerOkay, we've spent all 6 of our Fame and both of our Actions. There's nothing else we can do! If we had any leftover Fame or Actions, we would [red]NOT[/red] be able to save them for next round. *Click on [red]"Confirm"[/red] at the top to end our Market Phase.*2confirmTurn

NekonyancerAt the end of our Market Phase, a new card was drawn to replace the one we hired. In this case, it turned out to be a *Monkey.*2fl-toon-card-43-front

NekonyancerWhenever a card is added to the Market, all the cards are then rearranged in order from left to right according to their *rank,* which is the number to the left of their name.3fl-toon-card-43-front

NekonyancerThe Monkey's rank is *17,* which is higher than any other card in the Market. That means it will have to go into the *most expensive slot,* and all the other cards will shift over to make room for it!4fl-toon-card-43-front

NekonyancerNow our opponent will go through their own Market Phase. Just like us, they'll get two actions with which to *hire* new cards or *dismiss* old ones.6maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerOur opponent hired a card and ended their Market Phase. Just like before, a new card was drawn to refill the Market. It's a *Butterfly,* with a rank of *4.* That's lower than the Dog's rank, so some rearrangement is in order!1fl-toon-card-32-front

NekonyancerNow that everyone has finished their Market Phase, BGA will go through the *Cleanup Phase,* which involves many small steps. I'll point them out one at a time. [green](Step 20/50)[/green]2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerFirst, in 2-player games like this one, BGA will discard the lowest and highest ranked cards in the Market, then draw replacements. In this case, the *Butterfly* and *Monkey* will be replaced.3fl-toon-card-32-front

NekonyancerAs usual, the Market will be rearranged to account for the new cards' ranks.4fl-toon-card-28-front

NekonyancerNext, BGA will move the cards from each player's grid to their deck.5fl-toon-card-61-front

NekonyancerFinally, whoever has the [red]*First Player card*[/red] will give it to the next player.6fl-misc-card-1-front

NekonyancerBefore I let BGA flip the rest of our cards, take a look at the *Ostrich's* special ability. It says we must *"Stack"* the next revealed card on this card. This allows us to put two cards in a single slot, which means more cards in our grid overall, which means more Fame per turn!9fl-toon-card-62-front

Nekonyancer... and it got stacked on top of the Ostrich! The Fame from both of these cards will be counted!12fl-toon-card-62-front

NekonyancerBy the way, note that the Ostrich cannot *cause* a card to be revealed - it merely stacks whatever card was going to be revealed anyway. Therefore, if the Ostrich ended up in our *last* slot, we would not reveal another card, and we would miss out on the Ostrich's ability! The same goes for all other card abilities in this game! In other words, players will assemble their decks and Flip one last time. The Fame generated in this Final Flip is their final score! NekonyancerOne last thing - some cards have a *"Flip"* keyword, which should not be confused with the Flip phase at the beginning of each round. When a card like the *Elephant* causes another card to Flip, it is flipped face down in the grid. It still occupies the slot, but it contributes 0 Fame, does not count for other card abilities (like the Dragonfly's), and cannot be dismissed.3maintitlebar_content
