Nekonyancer[img]https://snipboard.io/Iptg1K.jpg[/img] The Mandala: the symbol of an ancient and sacred ritual. Colored sand is laid to create a symbolic map of the world, before the pattern is ceremonially destroyed and then rebuilt. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1player_name_92143487000
NekonyancerIn Flowers: a Mandala Game, players will take turns playing cards from their hands onto three [green]lotus blossoms,[/green] forming Mandalas. When all six colors are present, the complete Mandala is then destroyed, allowing players with the most cards there to acquire one of the *Flower Tiles* inside!2player_name_92143487000flower0 3 flower1 3 flower2 3
NekonyancerEach Flower Tile is worth Victory Points, but players who acquire matching pairs of tiles will earn even more. [green]When one player acquires three matching pairs of Flower Tiles, the game ends, and whoever has the most points wins![/green]3player_name_92143487000
NekonyancerAs the first player, we started the game with five cards in [red]our hand.[/red] You should be able to see them at the bottom of your screen. Our opponents, nekonekoneko4 and Nekonyancer, received [blue]6 and 7 cards[/blue] respectively for going 2nd and 3rd.4cards000cards 6 cards-92146574 2 cards-11941354 2
NekonyancerOn our turn, all we have to do is select some cards of a single color and place them all at a single Mandala. If we select and place just [green]one[/green] card, we will immediately draw [green]four more.[/green]5card-72000
Nekonyancer[red]Let's try it![/red] 1. Select the purple tile in our hand. 2. Click on the [blue]*square*[/blue] under the top-left Mandala. (You may need to scroll down a little). 3. Click on [blue]*"Place"*[/blue] at the top!6player_name_92143487010customActions 2 f0-1-92143487 7
Nekonyancer[blue]Excellent![/blue] Since that was a single card, we immediately drew 4 more, bringing us to our [red]maximum hand size[/red] (8). If we play another single card next turn, we'll draw a card to replace the one we played and then [red]stop drawing.[/red]1card-72664895257c85e00
NekonyancerNext, take a look at the card we played. There are a few things I need to explain. First, note that the card was placed on the *underside* of the Mandala, next to our name. No matter which Mandala we play cards at, they will always be in this position.2f1-3-11941354664895257c85e01f0-1-92143487 12
NekonyancerSecond, if you hover over the [red]*"?"*[/red] next to our card, you can see which colors are still absent here. [blue]Go on, try it![/blue] As you can see, this Mandala is missing green, lavender, and light blue.4f0-1-92143487664895257c85e00
NekonyancerYes, that's right - only one card has been played here so far, yet 3 of the 6 colors are already present! [green]This is because the colors of the Flower Tiles[/green] - dark red and yellow, in this case - [green]count as being present![/green]5flower0664895257c85e00
NekonyancerThe [red]"?"[/red] also shows who the Leading Player is and who is in second place at this Mandala. To "lead," we must have played more cards at this Mandala than any other player, AND at least one of those cards must be face up. The Leading Player is also indicated by the [green]Claim Marker.[/green]6standee0664895257c85e00standee0 3
NekonyancerBeing the Leading player is very important because that player gets to choose one of the Flower Tiles when all the colors are present! Whoever is in second will get the leftover tile.7card-16664895257c85e00
NekonyancerThat's enough explaining for now. We played a card, so our turn is over. [green]*nekonekoneko4*[/green] will take their turn now!8card-16664895257c85e00
Nekonyancer[green]They played 2 green cards here![/green] The cards were played face up because green was not already present here.1f0-2-92146574664895364e9ed00
NekonyancerBut since they played 2 cards at once, they did not get to draw any cards this turn! As you can see, they now have only [red]*4 cards*[/red] in their hand.2cards-92146574664895364e9ed00cards-92146574 1
NekonyancerStill, playing 2 cards at once was probably a good idea because they now have more cards here than we do. That makes them the new Leading Player! The [green]Claim Marker[/green] moved to indicate this! Next, [blue]Nekonyancer[/blue] will go.3standee0664895364e9ed00standee0 2
NekonyancerThey played a single card face up. Unfortunately for them, they only drew *2 cards* because they hit their maximum hand size.1f0-1194135466489541b933800
NekonyancerUh-oh. We are now tied with [blue]Nekonyancer[/blue] for 2nd place at this Mandala, with 1 card each. The tiebreaker is the number of face up cards, but we're still tied. If there's a tie for 2nd when the Mandala is complete, the Leading Player gets to take BOTH Flower Tiles! Indeed, if you hover over [red]"?"[/red] again, you'll see that [green]nekonekoneko4[/green] is now displayed for both "Leading player" and "Second tile!"2f1-3-1194135466489541b933800
NekonyancerLuckily, it's our turn again, so we can immediately fix that situation. The last missing color here is blue, and we have 3 blue cards in our hand. We can use them to retake the lead and finish the Mandala at the same time! [blue]But how many of them should we play?[/blue]3f1-3-1194135466489541b933800
NekonyancerWe need to have more cards here than any other player. If we play just 1 blue card, we'll be tied with [green]nekonekoneko4[/green] at 2 each. When players tie for first, the Claim Marker does not move, and the Leading player does not change. [blue]That means we'll have to play at least 2 cards.[/blue]4f1-3-1194135466489541b933801
Nekonyancer[red]Let's do it![/red] 1. Select the first 2 blue cards in our hand. Do not use the one on the far right. 2. Select the [blue]same square as before[/blue] - under the top-left Mandala. 3. Click on [blue]"Place"[/blue] at the top!5card-8866489541b933810customActions 2 f0-1-92143487 7
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* The Mandala is complete, and we're the Leading player, so we can choose one of the two Flower Tiles. As you can see, there are several lotus icons on each tile. Each icon represents [green]1 victory point.[/green]1player_name_92143487664895854a19c00
NekonyancerTherefore, the dark red tile is worth [green]2 points,[/green] and the yellow tile is worth [green]7 points.[/green] Hardly a difficult decision! 1. Select the yellow tile! 2. Click on [blue]"Take light tile!"[/blue]2player_name_92143487664895854a19c10
NekonyancerGood! The 7-point tile is now in our [blue]inventory![/blue] Our [red]score[/red] has been adjusted to reflect this.1tiles-5-921434876648959105e1a00player_score_92143487 1 tiles-92143487 2
NekonyancerNext, look back at the Mandala we completed. Two new Flower Tiles were placed in the middle. These particular ones say "x3" on them. [green]They aren't worth any points on their own, but they can multiply the points on other tiles! More on this later.[/green]2f1-3-119413546648959105e1a00
NekonyancerAll the cards around the Mandala were removed. Players who did not get to take a Flower Tile - [blue]Nekonyancer,[/blue] in this case - received their cards back, bringing them up to [red]9 cards.[/red] That's right! Receiving cards back from a destroyed Mandala allows you to [green]temporarily exceed[/green] the normal 8-card hand size limit!3f1-3-119413546648959105e1a00cards-11941354 1
NekonyancerNext, let's go for the top-right Mandala. Select the [green]green[/green] card in our hand and place it [blue]here![/blue]1f2-1-92143487664895c1201e810f2-1-92143487 7
NekonyancerHmm. We have only 1 card to [green]nekonekoneko4's[/green] 4! Even if we played 3 red cards at once (flipping them face down, since red is already present), it still wouldn't make us the Lead Player. [blue]You know what? Let's complete it anyway.[/blue] Play the card from our hand that will complete the Mandala!1card-40664895f6cc62110
NekonyancerGood! The Mandala is complete! [green]Nekonekoneko4[/green] is the lead player and will choose a Flower Tile, even though they didn't play the last card. Hopefully, they'll take the 5-point blue tile and leave the yellow one for us.1f2-2-92146574664896020ec4800
Nekonyancer[green]Did you see that?[/green] The 4-point yellow tile went into our inventory, where it automatically combined with our other yellow tile to form a [red]Flower![/red]1tiles-92143487664896159862f00flowers-92143487 1
NekonyancerWhenever two tiles combine, the value of the lower tile is [green]doubled.[/green] In this case, we had a 4-point tile and a 7-point tile, so we now have a total of 7 + (4x2) points, for a total of [green]15![/green]2flowers-92143487664896159862f00player_score_92143487 3
NekonyancerHowever, if one of the tiles is a x3 tile, the value of the other tile is [green]tripled[/green] instead. For example, if [green]nekonekoneko4[/green] acquired this x3 dark red tile, it would automatically combine with the 2-point dark red tile in their hand, giving them 6 points.3tile-6664896159862f00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/blue] Remember, when one player forms their third flower, the game ends. At that point, all the remaining Mandalas are destroyed. Players who were competing for them still get to take Flower Tiles from them, even though some colors were still missing. Then BGA counts up the points!4player_name_92143487664896159862f00
NekonyancerHere's a reminder of how scoring works: - Each tile is worth the points shown. - The lower value tile of each complete flower (pair of matching tiles) is doubled. - x3 tiles without matching tiles are worth nothing. Here's an example! [img]https://snipboard.io/Rv0d7a.jpg[/img] [green]Whoever has the most points wins![/green]5player_name_92143487664896159862f00
NekonyancerFlowers: a Mandala Game is best with 3 or 4 players, but if you want to play with only 2, you can, with the following rule changes: To claim the second tile from a Mandala, you must have at least [blue]half[/blue] as many cards as the Lead Player, and at least one of those cards must be [blue]face up.[/blue] Otherwise, the Lead Player gets both tiles. Cards are never returned to players.6player_name_92143487664896159862f00
Nekonyancer[blue]Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Flowers: a Mandala Game![/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send Nekonyancer a message!
