IltismanKonnichi wa [engl.: "concerning this day" or simply "Good day!"]. Welcome to In this game, you assume the role of one of two Samurai warriors engaged in a fierce duel.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman*Kiri-ai: The Duel* is a card-based game. But unlike other card games, what you get is what you see - no drawing. Each turn begins with both players secretly selecting a first and second card from their hand. Then, both players reveal and resolve their chosen cards. Whoever manages first to deliver two strikes to their opponent, is the winner of the game.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman[green][tip] Personal note: Creating tutorials like this demands significant dedication. Please follow through to the end. If you find it helpful, please consider rating it 5 stars. Since BGA mandates a minimum 4.2 rating for tutorials, a 4-star rating is essentially a negative rating. Please bear this in mind when rating any tutorial. Thanks! [/green] 3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
IltismanLet's begin by reviewing our cards. As mentioned earlier, the whole game is played with these 6 cards. There are three types of cards: Firstly, we have [blue]2 Movement Cards[/blue]. You'll find them on the left side of your hand (those with arrows on them). They are divided horizontally, each offering two options.4player-hand_0000
IltismanNext to the Movement Cards, there are [blue]3 Attack Cards[/blue]. These are the ones with a yellow stripe across them, symbolizing the slash of your katana sword.5player-hand_2000
IltismanFinally, we have been dealt [red]1 Special Attack Card[/red] (the orange one to the right). While the other five cards are identical in both our and our opponents' hand, this Special Attack is a unique skill of our warrior and remains concealed from our adversary. Moreover, unlike the other cards, it is a single use ability. Use it wisely.6player-hand_5000
IltismanHovering over this area reveals our opponent's deck. As you can observe, the Special Attack is concealed.7opponent_hand_icon000
IltismanYou can view the effect of any card by hovering over it. Regarding the special attack card, you will be able to see not only the effect of your card (refer to '*Your Special Card*') but also the effects of all special attacks. This way, you'll also have an idea what you may face. Feel free to try it now.8hands000
IltismanNow, a little less conversation, ... Let me give you an idea of the gameplay. Oh, and don't be affraid. This is gonna be a quick tutorial. *Kiri-ai: The Duel* proves that an intriguing game doesn't need complex rules.9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
IltismanPlease select this card for our first action. Mind that it contains two options. *Select the upper half of this card and continue.* 10player-hand_1000
IltismanNext, we will select this card. Due to a bug in this tutorial, I will take care of it for you.1player-hand_266ea1203af3ac00
IltismanUsually, at this point, you would have to confirm your selection at the top of the screen. Until you do so, you would still be able to change your mind. For now, I will take care of the confirmation.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea12091674d00
IltismanOur opponent has also made a selection. Until now, he doesn't know which cards we played. Watch closely.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea12daeda9400
IltismanThe first cards have been revealed. Our opponent played a movement card as well. 1opponent_played_066ea12de03c8e00
IltismanOur first card has been resolved. Our warrior took [red]two steps[/red] forward. Surely, if you look the card we played, you will understand its meaning, now. * Arrow up two dots = two steps forward*.3player_played_066ea12de03ca400battlefield_position_2 1 battlefield_position_3 1
IltismanSame applies to our opponent. The arrow points down one step and that's what the movement looks like.4opponent_played_066ea12de03cb000
IltismanSome more remarks to this regard: - Movement will never move a warrior beyond the end of the battlefield nor past the other warrior; - The options for movement are 1 step forward, 2 steps forward or 1 step backward; - When cards are resolved, movement always 'goes' first.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea12de03cb000
IltismanSecond part of the turn: two attack cards. Please mind that you can combine your cards anyway you like. Your selection can also contain e.g. 2 moves or 2 attacks.6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea12de03cbf00
IltismanYou just saw how the two attacks have been resolved. As you could see from the 'special effects' both warriors attacked [red]the same area of the battlefield[/red]. Please feel free to have a quick look at both players' attack cards. Surely you will see that they follow the same rules as the movement cards.7battlefield66ea12de03ccc00battlefield_position_4 1
IltismanThe dots mark the areas relative to the warriors current position. Unlike the movement cards, the layout is the same for both our opponent and us. The white diamond at the bottom marks the current position of the warrior, the ones above indicate the areas 1, 2, or 3 steps ahead.8opponent_played_166ea12de03ccc00
IltismanThe small indicator to the left shows the area the attack is targeting. Consequently, the adversary's attack was directed at its own current location, but naturally, not at itself.9opponent_played_166ea12de03ccc00
IltismanOur attack was directed one area ahead: Hence, it should have hit our opponent. However, there is one last thing you have to take into account regarding attacks: *The correct stance*. More on this issue in a moment.10battlefield66ea12de03ccc00
IltismanTime to choose cards for our next turn. We will skip this part, since you already know how it is done. Just one quick remark: As you can see, the card we played second in our last turn is unavailable. This always applies to the second card. Next turn, it will be available again.1player-hand_366ea12f78797c00
IltismanFor our third turn, please select the bottom of this card. Our warrior will take one step back. 1player-hand_066ea1389027aa00
IltismanSecond, we will choose the bottom of this card. This will change our stance.1player-hand_166ea13a15ce5a00
IltismanNow watch the card that represents our warrior...1player_samurai66ea149f8229200
IltismanThe card was fliped to reflect the change in stance. Mind the two symbols next to the warrior on the card. They represent the two options. 2player_samurai66ea149f822ab00
IltismanYou will also find the same symbols on the card we played. The arrow next to them indicates, that this action causes a shift from one stance to the other. 3player_played_166ea149f822ab00
IltismanAnd you will find those symbols on each of your attack cards, indicating which stance is necessary for an attack to be successful. 4player-hand_266ea149f822ab00
IltismanFor this attack, both is possible.5player-hand_466ea149f822ab00
IltismanAs for the special attack, mind that only one stance is possible and that afterwards, your warrior will change stance. Also mind that it targets not only one but two areas.6player-hand_566ea149f822ab00
IltismanFinally, two successful attacks each targeting the area with the enemy and executed at the same time will block one another.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea149f8324800
IltismanAnd that's all you need to know. Thanks for watching. See you on the battlefield!8archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment66ea149f8324800
