Chart a course through the waves’ wild dance, Line up five ships, seize your chance![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman*ODICEY* is played on a board featuring 5 x 5 slots for dice placement. Picture it as a tumultuous ocean. You're Odysseus and to reach home, you must navigate these waters more skillfully than your opponent by aligning dice. It's been said that a German soccer player once described soccer as chess without dice. Well, Odicey is the reverse - it's chess with a twist of dice!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman[green][tip] Personal note: Creating tutorials like this demands significant dedication. Please follow through to the end. If you find it helpful, please consider rating it 5 stars. Since BGA mandates a minimum 4.2 rating for tutorials, a 4-star rating is essentially a negative rating. Please bear this in mind when rating any tutorial. Thanks! [/green] 3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
IltismanYou can win during your turn by fulfilling the following conditions: [tip] 5 dice in a row, [tip] regardless of their color, [tip] vertical or horizontal or diagonal [tip] strictly consecutive or identical. [green]Maybe it's best if I give you two examples:[/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman!!! Once again: [tip] a row can be made up of any combination of dice colours. [tip] a consecutive row can progress any direction (up, down, left, right) [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edf77f1ad4.96834975.jpg[/img]7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Iltisman!!! And: [tip] A winning row can be aligned horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785edf7c31bc0.36472262.jpg[/img]9archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
IltismanBefore we jump into the gameplay, rest assured that this tutorial will be quick. Odicey might be challenging to master, but the rules are easy to understand.10archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
IltismanOn our turn, we roll the dice and place them on the board in the available spots, and occasionally even in occupied ones. To begin, please select [red]*two of your dice*[/red] and confirm your choice at the top of the screen. [red]!!![/red] In this tutorial, whenever you are instructed to select multiple dice, please ensure you do so from left to right in a strict sequence.11odiDice_12010odiDice_9 1 odiDice_10 1
IltismanNotice that we also rolled this [blue]*white die*[/blue]. We will learn more about its significance later. For now, just keep in mind that this white die is referred to as [blue]*Zeus's die*[/blue].1odiDice_25671adfb2e6d6d00odiDice_25 2
IltismanSince we rolled *[green]two identical dice*[/green] (a double), we've triggered *[green]a bonus effect*[/green]. More on that shortly. First, it's time to place those dice on the board.2gameaction_status671adfb2e705e00gameaction_status 3 odiDice_9 3 odiDice_25 3
IltismanPlease select *[blue]Zeus's die*[/blue], put it *[red]here*[/red] and confirm (at the top of the screen)! After that, I will take care of the other two in the same way.3odiDice_25671adfb2e7d3810odi_spot_19 6 odiDice_25 2
IltismanNormally, this would mark the end of our turn. However, there is still the [green]bonus effect[/green] I mentioned before. [red]!!![/red] Rolling a double, where both dice display the same value, grants you an extra turn that is subject to specific rules.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671adff2e26ce00
IltismanIf the double roll… … is composed of two dice matching Zeus’s die, … and if *Zeus’s die* is not one of them, *ZEUS’s AEGIS* would be triggered, allowing you to reroll two selected dice already on the board, regardless of their color, including Zeus' die.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671adff2e26ce00
IltismanAlternatively, if the double roll... ... is composed of two dice, and one is Zeus's die, ... or if the two identical dice show a value different from Zeus's die, then *ATHENA'S AEGIS* is triggered. This grants you a choice between two options: - Take another classic turn - Remove two dice of your opponent's color.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671adff2e26ce00extraTurnAthena_roll 1 extraTurnAthena_remove 2
IltismanPlease opt for *[red]Roll 2 dice*[/red], select *[blue]two of our dice*[/blue] and confirm.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671adff2e26ce10extraTurnAthena_roll 1 odiDice_11 2 odiDice_12 2
IltismanWe rolled a 4 and a 5. Do you remember the rules for winning a match? [red]!!! Remember, our opponent shares the same goal. Therefore, be cautious about what you leave them with.[/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae00ae0cdb00
IltismanLet's aim to align a diagonal sequence of consecutive numbers in this row. Please select the die with a value of *[blue]five*[/blue], put it [red]diagonally below the 6[/red] and confirm.7odi_spot_9671ae00ae196010odi_spot_9 6 odi_spot_21 12 odiDice_11 2
IltismanPlace your other die accordingly as indicated.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae01b4bc9e10odi_spot_13 6 odiDice_12 2
IltismanStarting our second turn, let's review our opponent's move. It's clear why they placed *[red]the 2 here*[/red] (going for a row of 2s). However, the placement of *[blue]the 5 here*[/blue] appears odd, doesn't it?... We'll find out shortly!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae03f1fd6e00odiDice_13 2 odiDice_14 1
IltismanTime to roll some dice. As before, we can select two dice from [red]*our supply*[/red] on the right side of the board. Alternatively, we may reroll dice we have already placed on the board (or roll one of each). If we reroll a die from the board, we can place it freely on board without being restricted to its initial position. However, let's roll two dice from our supply.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae03f1fd6e00odi_bluePort 1
IltismanWe rolled a 2 and a 3, which would fit perfectly into our consecutively ascending row of dice. Alas, our opponent's die, showing a 5, blocks us. This demonstrates that it can be wise to place a mismatched die strategically to block our opponent.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae04f446d400odiDice_13 1 odi_spot_21 12
IltismanThere are just two more things I'd like to show you. Let's fast forward.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae04f446d400
IltismanBy now, you might be curious about what makes Zeus' die special. Allow me to demonstrate. Please choose these two dice for our roll. Yes, I'm aware that one is our opponent's die, but trust me, it will work.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae0a20263710odiDice_14 17 odiDice_7 18
IltismanHave you figured out the special role of Zeus' die now? Indeed, on their turn, each player is permitted to reroll and place any die on the board, matching the value of Zeus' die. This is known as *ZEUS's FAVOUR*. [tip] Please note that on your turn, you may always choose any of your own dice on the board for a reroll.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae0b83b99100
IltismanHere's another crucial rule concerning the placement of dice: instead of placing them in an empty spot on the board, you can opt to swap two dice that have the same value. This strategy (known as *HERMES's TRICK*) can be extremely helpful for removing a block or creating one of your own. Please swap the die indicated on the board with the marked die that you have just rolled.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae0b83cb3310odiDice_12 18 odiDice_14 17
IltismanThat concludes the basics. Rather than showing you more moves, the best way to learn this game is to play and gain experience. [green][tip] Remember, to win the game, you should aim to set up rows, place a block strategically, and reroll it when the timing is perfect.[/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment671ae0d550d1c00
