villager[tip] [green]This tutorial is best experienced on a full screen desktop browser at 1080p[/green] Welcome to the tutorial for Puerto Rico, one of the most popular strategy games on BGA! You are back in colonial times.. when the island of Puerto Rico was transformed into plantations. The aim of the game is to amass *victory points* by *shipping processed goods* to Europe or by *constructing buildings*.2maintitlebar_content6196ff4edf11a00bank aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYWI3MGNkNi4xMDU1MTczNi5qcGc=/262/87 plantations_and_buildings aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYWI3MGNkNi4xMDU1MTczNi5qcGc=/0/291 avatarwrap_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYWI3MGNkNi4xMDU1MTczNi5qcGc=/-980/-130
villagerEverything thematically and strategically fits in Puerto Rico. You'll soon learn all the core rules of this wonderful game. Let's begin by taking a tour of the game screen in front of you, that you need to pay attention to for your first few moves. 3maintitlebar_content6196ff4edf11a00
villagerIn this 2-player game, we see each players Plantation boards. The starting player (your opponent) starts with an Indigo plantation, while you start with a Corn plantation. On the top of each board are 12 spaces for buildings that you can construct in your corner of Puerto Rico.4bank6196ff4edf11a00plantation_1 11 board_player_17359724 6 plantation_8 11 board_player_85744056 6
villager*Plantations and Buildings need workers / colonists to trigger their benefits*. Once assigned, the plantation or building is considered OCCUPIED. Round 1 starts with 2 Colonists arriving on the Colonist Ship (highlighted) waiting to be assigned work in your board.. 40 more Colonists are available through the course of the game. (as indicated by the number 40 under the "Bank" row)5colonist_ship6196ff4edf11a00bank 11 colonist_ship 6
villagerYour opponent is the starting player for this round. This is indicated by the Governor token. The Governor gets to choose which of the following ROLES to select *first* and apply for this turn.6governor6196ff4edf11a00governor 11
villager*In a 2-player game, a round is 6 turns long.* *In every turn, one UNIQUE role must be selected.* Again, the Governor gets to pick the FIRST role. The game end triggers when either: - all 65 Victory Points (VPs) are distributed (rule for 2 player games) - there aren't enough colonists to fill the Colony Ship - a player fills the 12th building space in their board Complete the full round and then count VPs to determine the winner!7shipping_points6196ff4edf11a00
villagerThere are 7 roles that grant different actions / benefits to the players. These are listed here. villagerYour opponent selected the Settler role. This is immediately reflected in the Game Log, and is scratched out in the list of roles. *Any role can be selected only ONCE in a Round.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec2b525e87.83224578.jpg[/img]1pagemaintitletext6196ff564702d00captain_17359724 6 role_block_player_17359724 11 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYjdhZmM2NS4yODk0NzA2My5qcGc=/0/0
villagerEvery role, like the Settler, has 2 benefits. [green]The top benefit is available to ALL players.[/green] *The bottom benefit / privilege is available ONLY to to the player that selected the role .* As your opponent selected the Settler role, they can pick a Quarry instead of a regular plantation, available on offer here. villagerThe Settler role is not unique to only the player that selected it.. remember, ALL players are now playing the Settler role, in this turn. It's your turn to now select a plantation. Puerto Rico offers 5 kinds of plantations, out of which 3 are randomly offered. 1) Indigo 2) Corn 3) Sugar 4) Coffee 5) Tobacco Right now, you have a choice between Sugar and Tobacco. *Select Tobacco to proceed.*2settler_173597246196ff57de5c710plantation_26 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzI4MGFmMy4xMjk3ODA0NS5qcGc=/-7/-6

As you selected this role, your privilege is to build any building at the discount of 1 Doubloon, provided you have those funds.4role_block_player_173597246196ff6121fe110role_block_player_17359724 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzQ0YjllNi45Nzc1NDcyNC5qcGc=/-2/-8 bank aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzQ0YjllNi45Nzc1NDcyNC5qcGc=/262/87
villagerFor this tutorial, let's *select and build* the *Small Market*. The Small Market costs 1 Doubloon (indicated on the bottom left). As you selected the Builder role, you get a 1 Doubloon discount, making it free! It also awards 1 VP for building it. (indicated by the red number on the top right). 1buildings6196ff6bd762210building_5 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzdhZTVlOS44NjkzMjcxNS5qcGc=/-7/-7 building_6 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzk5Y2VjOC4wMjU4MjAwOS5qcGc=/0/0 building_8 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyYzk5Y2VjOC4wMjU4MjAwOS5qcGc=/0/0
villagerBuildings, besides giving VPs, also often trigger additional benefits during role selection. [red]*Note that buildings must be OCCUPIED by the needed number of colonists for the effect to trigger.*[/red] Small Market's benefit will give you an additional Doubloon whenever the Trader role is selected, and a good is sold.1building_56196ff6de0fc600building_5 8
villagerFor his turn during the Builder role, your opponent decided to spend 1 Doubloon, and build a *Small Indigo Plant*. But wait.. shouldn't the building be FREE for him too, as he made a Quarry in the previous turn, and Small Indigo Plants can be discounted by 1 Quarry? Think carefully about the answer..1building_26196ff7716df200building_1 12 building_2 8 buildings aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyY2Q1NDNiMi44ODA2MjQzOC5qcGc=/39/107 board_player_85744056 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyY2Q1NDNiMi44ODA2MjQzOC5qcGc=/0/19
villagerYou are correct.. the Quarry discount did not apply as Colonists have NOT been assigned to work at the Quarry. *It's currently not occupied.* [red]Colonists can only be assigned when the Mayor role is chosen.[/red]2plantation_366196ff7716df200plantation_36 11
villagerAnd that's exactly the role your opponent has now selected to do. By default, all players are distributed Colonists from the Colonist Ship, which are then assigned to Buildings and Plantations for triggering their benefits. The privilege of selecting the Mayor role is to get an additional Colonist from the Bank.1mayor_173597246196ff79e89c300role_block_player_17359724 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZDE2MzVkMy43MTI0NjU3Ny5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZDE2MzVkMy43MTI0NjU3Ny5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZDE2MzVkMy43MTI0NjU3Ny5qcGc=/0/0
villagerBGA automatically applies the Mayor privilege. 1 Colonist goes to your opponents supply, by reducing it from the number of Colonists in the Bank. !!! as noted earlier, watch this number (currently 39). If there aren't enough Colonists left to stock the Colonist Ship at the end of the Mayor role turn, that round will be the last round before end game scoring.1player_board_inner_ff00006196ff7b34d2700bank 11 icon_colonist_85744056 12 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZDgzMmJlMy40OTM1NzgxNi5qcGc=/-1/-5

villagerAs BGA instructs, Everyone must now place their Colonists where desired. *For this tutorial, assign your single Colonist to your Corn plantation.* Remember, unless a plantation is OCCUPIED with the needed number of Colonists, it will not grow anything. Visually, BGA fills the bottom-left circle(s) with the brown Colonist marker to indicate they are occupied.4board_player_173597246196ff7b35c6810plantation_1 16
villagerYour opponent placed a Colonist on his Small Indigo Plant building. In Puerto Rico, *other than Corn*, every other crop like Indigo, Sugar, Tobacco, and Coffee need OCCUPIED Production Buildings to manufacture the processed good, that can be exported to Europe using Cargo Ships. We will soon learn that goods barrels are produced when the Craftsman role is selected..1board_player_857440566196ff7de654800building_2 6
villagerAlso remember that during the Mayor role turn, you can also REASSIGN Colonists between your buildings and plantations. As you are done assigning / re-assigning your Colonists, click the "I'm Finished" button on the top UI bar to continue to the next turn.2page-title6196ff7de654810action_cancel 16
villagerYour opponent also placed a Colonist on his Indigo plantation. He can now grow and manufacture Indigo goods during the Craftsman role selection.1plantation_86196ff7f1ae9d00plantation_8 6
villagerAt the end of the Mayor phase, BGA automatically loads Colonists into the Colonist Ship (and reduces that number from the Bank). *The number of Colonists boarded equals the number of UNOCCUPIED spaces (colonist circles) on constructed Buildings, on all player boards.* At a minimum, Colonists equal to the player count will be loaded. (right now in this 2-player game, only 1 building's colonist space is unoccupied. Hence the minimum number of 2 Colonists are boarded).1colonist_ship6196ff81255bd00building_5 11 bank 11 colonist_ship 6
villagerIt's your turn again to select a role. Go ahead and *choose the Prospector role*. This is a very simple role with only the privilege benefit, ie "get 1 Doubloon from the bank". No other player does anything during the turn that the Prospector is selected.2role_block_player_173597246196ff81255bd10role_block_player_17359724 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZGEzYjFlMy41NDMyOTczOC5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZGEzYjFlMy41NDMyOTczOC5qcGc=/0/0
villagerAnd as expected, BGA deposits 1 Doubloon into your supply.. to increase it from 3 to 4 Doubloons.1icon_doubloon_173597246196ff846545b00icon_doubloon_17359724 8 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZGVkYjZhMS42MzE3MjM3NC5qcGc=/-1/-6
villagerYour opponent selected the Craftsman role. It's a simple role to understand. Every OCCUPIED plantation with an OCCUPIED production plant (like Indigo Plant, Sugar Mill, Tobacco Storage, and Coffee Roaster.. will produce goods (in barrels).1role_block_player_173597246196ff878125e00role_block_player_17359724 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZTEzZGU5MS4wNzE2MDUxMi5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZTEzZGU5MS4wNzE2MDUxMi5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZTEzZGU5MS4wNzE2MDUxMi5qcGc=/0/0
villagerThe number of circles on the production buildings indicates the maximum number of goods the building can produce when the circles have colonists on them. (hover over the highlighted production buildings above) Of course, the player must also have sufficient occupied plantations of the appropriate kind to produce the raw materials needed to produce the goods in the production buildings. As an example, a single Large Indigo Plant (with 3 production circles) can process Indigo from upto 3 occupied plantations. For every barrel of a good produced, you need 1 Colonist in the plantation, and 1 Colonist in the matching Production plant. To maximize the output of a Large Indigo Plant during the Craftsman phase, you will need 3 occupied Indigo plantations (ie 3 Colonists) and 3 Colonists occupying all 3 circles of the Large Indigo Plant.2buildings6196ff878125e00building_1 6 building_4 6 building_10 6 building_12 6 building_18 6 building_20 6
villagerBGA auto-checks which occupied plantations have occupied production plants, and deposits the needed number of goods into your supply. *As your opponent selected the Craftman role, they get their Indigo barrel first. * [tip] keep this rule in mind. *There are only a limited number of goods / barrels in the Goods Supply*. If your opponents have taken them all, you may not be able to produce that barrel.3icon_indigo_player_857440566196ff8781e0500bank 11 plantation_8 11 building_2 11 icon_indigo_player_85744056 6
villagerSimilarly, you get a Corn barrel. Again, Corn doesn't need a production plant. Simply an occupied plantation will do. You will soon see that Corn also earns the lowest amount of Doubloons (specifically 0) when sold during the Trader phase.4icon_corn_player_173597246196ff878204f00plantation_1 11 icon_corn_player_17359724 8
villagerFor selecting the Craftsman role, your opponent took the privilege of earning an extra good of their choice (again it can only be a good that they are already producing.. currently, they are only producing Indigo, so BGA gives them an extra barrel. villagerThe Captain role thematically lets you SHIP out those produced goods (from the Craftsman turn) and earn VPs. Starting with the player that selected the role, choose one of the available cargo ships. In this 2-player game, only the 4-barrel and 6-barrel cargo ships are available. Each player may get several turns to load goods on the cargo ships. 1bank_and_cards6196ff8df33e900cargo_ship_1 6 cargo_ship_2 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZWQ4NzZhNy4xNjgyMzY0Ni5qcGc=/-2/-6
villager- Each cargo ship will carry goods of only one kind. - Players may not load goods on a cargo ship if goods of that same kind are on one of the other two cargo ships. - Players may not load goods on a full ship. - On a player’s turn, the player must load goods if possible. However, they may only load one kind of good and to only one ship. - When players load goods of a kind, they must load as many of that kind as they can. Players cannot hold back goods when there is space on a ship carrying the kind of goods they have. If players have a kind of good that can be loaded on several empty ships, they must choose the ship where they can load the most goods, leaving none behind, if possible. - If a player has several kinds of goods that they can load, they may choose freely which goods to load. Players need not choose the goods that would allow them to load the most goods.2maintitlebar_content6196ff8df33e900cargo_ship_1 6 cargo_ship_2 6
villagerNotice BGA is also reminding you that you could ship goods on your own private Wharf, IF you had built and occupied it. It's an expensive building that needs 9 Doubloons.3building_246196ff8df33e900building_24 6
villagerLet's select the larger 6-barrel cargo ship, for our Corn barrels. [tip] even though you only have 1 Corn barrel right now, reserving the larger ship lets you continue finding space for your Corn in future turns, assuming your opponents are also not filling Corn into that ship. Remember, each ship can only transport ONE KIND of good.4cargo_ship_26196ff8df33e910cargo_ship_2 16
villagerBGA has some automatic actions turned on by default. (see Automatic Actions panel) Remember all the shipping rules.. if you have a good that can be shipped, it MUST be shipped. In your case, the single barrel of Corn must be shipped, and BGA does this automatically for you. The shipped barrel goes back to the Goods supply (which is limited in quantity), which will supply the next Craftsman turn.1icon_corn_player_173597246196ff909687000bank 11 icon_corn_player_17359724 6
villagerEvery barrel shipped earns ONE VP. VP's come from the Bank. Watch out for the number.. when all VPs are distributed, it triggers that round to be the last round.2icon_shippingpoint_icon_173597246196ff9096bde00bank 11 icon_shippingpoint_icon_17359724 8
villagerAnd for selecting the Captain role, you earn an extra 1 VP as the privilege when shipping your first type of good, which BGA promptly deposits into your score. Note, you only get 1 VP extra even if you loaded other types of goods during this Captain phase. [red]if the player that selected Captain loads NO Goods, then the extra 1 VP is NOT awarded[/red] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec2f0a6268.78446638.jpg[/img]3player_board_inner_0080006196ff909719000icon_shippingpoint_icon_17359724 8
villagerNow it's the opponent's turn to choose a good and a cargo ship, during this Captain turn. BGA automatically chooses Indigo (the only good with the opponent), and automatically chooses the 4-barrel ship. All the shippable Indigo (in this case 2 barrels) are loaded onto the cargo ship.4cargo_ship_16196ff909c27500cargo_ship_1 6 icon_indigo_player_85744056 6
villagerAnd for shipping those 2 Indigo barrels, BGA awards 2 VPs to your opponent. Notice the total VP of your opponent is not shown to you (just a ?). Total VPs scored are kept secret until the end of the game.5icon_shippingpoint_icon_857440566196ff909c51500icon_shippingpoint_icon_85744056 6
villagerRemember, during the Captain phase/turn, each player can ship ONLY ONE TYPE of good. BGA, in turn order, will allow everyone to choose and load that one type of good. If you had other types of goods in your supply, you must now ship those too, if there is space on the cargo ships. For example, if you were also producing Indigo, you could ship upto 2 more barrels in the 4-barrel cargo ship, as it has space for 2 more Indigo's. But as you have nothing else eligible to ship, your turn ends.6maintitlebar_content6196ff909e10400cargo_ship_1 6 cargo_ship_2 6
villagerSimilarly, your opponent has nothing eligible to ship either.. so their Captain turn also ends. *In case there were goods that could not be shipped (because there was either no space in the cargo ship, or other kinds of goods are occupying the cargo ships), then we need to STORE goods at the end of the Captain turn.* [green]If you only have one kind of good left, then automatically, BGA will store 1 barrel of that good type for you. [/green] If you have multiple types left, then you will have to choose one type.7log_396196ff909f76500cargo_ship_1 6 cargo_ship_2 6
villagerFor all other remaining goods, each player must find room in one of their warehouses (small or large). - see highlighted. [red]*Players who do not have sufficient warehouse space must place all extra barrels of goods back in the goods supplies*[/red] Owners of an occupied small warehouse may store, at the end of the captain phase, in addition to the single good, *all the barrels of one kind that they choose*. Large warehouse, in addition to the single good that a player can store, may store all the barrels of *two kinds* of goods. [green]The warehouse protects the player from returning goods to the supply.[/green] It does not protect the player from being required to load the goods onto the cargo ships.8building_166196ff909f76500building_8 6 building_16 6
villager6 roles have been selected in this 1st Round. The 7th unused role gets 1 Doubloon as a bonus benefit. In this case, the Trader role will not only give the benefits of the role, but also award the extra Doubloon to the player that chooses it. (see the 1 next to the Trader role).9role_block_player_173597246196ff90a122d00role_block_player_17359724 6
villager.. and now you are the Governor. Which lets you pick the first role from the list of 7 roles.10governor6196ff90a15d000governor 6
villagerLet's select the Builder role this turn. We have 4 Doubloons. And we get a discount for choosing the role.. meaning we can buy a building upto 5 Doubloons.11role_block_player_173597246196ff90a1a0a10role_block_player_17359724 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZjJkMzM3MS41MjMxMTA5OS5qcGc=/-2/-1
villagerLet's select the Tobacco Storage building. As we are growing Tobacco in our plantation, we need this building to produce Tobacco barrels during the Craftsman role phase.1buildings6196ff987d96810building_18 16
villagerYour opponent has selected the Mayor role. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec3017f791.56398670.jpg[/img]1mayor_173597246196ffa1d40e300board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMzMDM3ZjFiNi4yMjI1NzE5OS5qcGc=/0/0
villagerAt the end of the Mayor role phase, 3 Colonists were boarded on the Colonist Ship, as those are the number of empty colonist circles on constructed buildings.1colonist_ship6196ffabd802900colonist_ship 6
villagerIt's your turn.. *select the Trader role.* You might be wondering.. why?! Obviously there are no goods in your supply to trade.. But selecting the role right now could have some strategic benefits. 1) you get the extra Doubloon that was placed on this role from the previous round 2) you also prevent your opponent from selecting this role this round, and possibly getting the Trader privilege.2role_block_player_173597246196ffabd802910role_block_player_17359724 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZjQ4ZmYwNy43MzQ0MTkyMS5qcGc=/-1/-4
villagerYour opponent selected the Settler role. In a previous turn, you probably noticed that they also built a Hacienda (during the Builder phase), and occupied it with a Colonist (during the Mayor phase). Which means the benefit of the Hacienda can now be triggered.. BGA prompts your opponent to choose an EXTRA random plantation tile from the face-down stack.1pagemaintitletext6196ffb4648ad00building_6 11 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZjY1ZDQ4OC4zNzc4MTM5NC5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZjY1ZDQ4OC4zNzc4MTM5NC5qcGc=/0/0
villagerOpponent received a random Tobacco plantation from the face-down stack. Whether they like it or not, it must be placed on the board.1plantation_306196ffb56416b00plantation_30 6
villagerAnd as part of their Settler privilege, they dug another Quarry on their board.1plantation_376196ffb7193bc00plantation_37 6
villagerLet's choose the Prospector role!1role_block_player_173597246196ffb7a28db10role_block_player_17359724 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMzMDc0MTMzMC40ODIzNTQzMS5qcGc=/-1/-3
villagerStart of Round 3.. your opponent is again the Governor. And the unused role, Craftsman, gets a bonus Doubloon.1governor6196ffd0d2b3600
villagerYour opponent has again chosen the Settler role. Getting lots of Quarries on his plantation seems to be their strategy :) [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec308c7229.98157244.jpg[/img]1settler_173597246196ffd48301e00board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMzMGFiNGRmNy4wMTUyOTg0Ni5qcGc=/0/0
villagerIt's your turn.. *select the Craftsman role to produce some barrels of goods* Note the privilege of getting an extra good. Plus you get an extra Doubloon too, as it was the unused role in the last round.1role_block_player_173597246196ffd9347b610role_block_player_17359724 16 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMzMDU4Yjc2My41NzkyMTg0OS5qcGc=/-3/-7
villagerYour opponent chose the Trader role.. and we have goods to trade! The Trading House (highlighted here) decides the prices of the goods. Every barrel of: Indigo = 1 Doubloon Sugar = 2 Doubloons Tobacco = 3 Doubloons Coffee = 4 Doubloons [red]Corn earns nothing when traded.[/red] [green]But Corn is easy to produce (no production building needed), and earns the same amount of VP as barrels of other goods, when shipped.[/green] 1trading_house6196fff27864d00trading_house 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZmE0MDBjNi45NjY3NTkzMi5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZmE0MDBjNi45NjY3NTkzMi5qcGc=/0/0 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZmE0MDBjNi45NjY3NTkzMi5qcGc=/0/0
villagerThe player who chooses this role, may immediately sell one good to the Trading House. The player places the sold good on any empty space on the Trading House and takes from the Bank the price associated with the good sold (0-4 doubloons) *plus 1 doubloon as the privilege*. [red]If no good is sold, then the extra doubloon is not awarded to the player that selected the Trader role.[/red] Then, in clockwise order from the Trader, each other player may sell one good to the Trading House for the price shown *as long as there is room for it in the Trading House*. *The Trading phase ends when all players have had one turn to sell or when the Trading House is full.*2trading_house6196fff27864d00trading_house 6 board_player_17359724 aHR0cHM6Ly94LmJvYXJkZ2FtZWFyZW5hLm5ldC9kYXRhL3R1dG9yaWFscy9pbWc2Nzg1ZWMyZmVlN2JlMy40NjE0ODcxOC5qcGc=/1/-4
villagerWhen selling, use the following rules: - The Trading House has room for just four goods. When it is full, no other players may sell goods in this Trading phase. - The Trading House buys only different kinds of goods. If a good of one type is in the Trading House, no more of that good can be sold to the Trading House until the Trading House is emptied. (Exception: Office - see highlighted building).3building_146196fff27864d00building_14 6
villagerYour opponent selected their Indigo barrel to sell. They received 1 Doubloon from the sale, and 1 extra Doubloon for select the Trader role and selling a good.1resource_indigo_116196fff58941300resource_indigo_11 6 icon_doubloon_85744056 12
villagerIt's your turn to trade now.. *select the highlighted Tobacco barrel* You will receive 3 Doubloons for this trade.2overall_player_board_173597246196fff58941310icon_tobacco_player_17359724 16
villagerAnd with that, you should now have a full understanding of all the roles in Puerto Rico, and their benefits. If you made it to this point, yes that seemed like a lot of rules. I highly recommend playing the tutorial a few times to see the flow of the game, and then it will all fit. :) 1maintitlebar_content6196fff9b7b3d00
villagerHere's what you learnt: 1) Win the game by getting the most VP. 2) The two sources of VP are : - Buildings (from the Builder role) - Shipping goods (from the Captain role) 3) You need Doubloons to purchase buildings. - one easy way is to select the Prospector role - else Trade your goods (from the Trader role) 4) To SHIP and TRADE goods, you need to PRODUCE goods :) - first, ensure you have colonists on your production buildings, and matching plantations (ie Occupied) - produce goods from the Craftsman role 5) To occupy buildings and plantations, you can : - get NEW colonists and - Rearrange colonists from the Mayor role. 6) You can get new plantations (or Quarries) from the Settler role. See.. everything fits right? :)2maintitlebar_content6196fff9b7b3d00
