leafsnackWelcome to *Skull*! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec62babb05.68901464.png[/img] Originating as a bar game using coasters as discs, *Skull* is a quick and fun bluffing game for 3-6 players. The game ends when a player has won two rounds.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
leafsnackEach player starts the game with 4 discs: [blue]*3 Flowers*[/blue] and *1 Skull*. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec62e9e608.45121114.png[/img] At the start of each round, each player simultaneously places one of their *discs* onto their mat face-down (so that no one else can see). Once each player has done so, the round can proceed. Click [blue]"Play Flower"[/blue] to put a flower disc face-down on your mat.1maintitlebar_content6205cb2f7fdf310
leafsnackNow that each player has one disc face-down on their mat, we can proceed with the round. When the turn comes around to you, there are two choices of what to do with your turn: [blue]1. Play another disc[/blue] [red]2. Issue a challenge[/red] *Simón* is the start player, so he will begin.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb3cd69fa00
leafsnack*Simón* just played a second disc on top of his first one. Now, it's *Nzinga's* turn.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb6252daa00
leafsnack*Nzinga* also plays a disc. If you recall, your two choices on your turn are: [blue]1. Play another disc[/blue] [red]2. Issue a challenge[/red] When a player [red]issues a challenge,[/red] no one can play any more discs for the rest of the round, and the *betting phase* begins.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb6d9ea0c00
leafsnackIn the *betting phase*, [red]The player issuing the challenge[/red] must pick a number from *1* through *the total # of discs on the table*. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec63231473.61039044.png[/img] When you [red]issue a challenge[/red] for *5*, you are saying: *"I think I can flip over [green]5 Flower discs[/green] without revealing a Skull."* If you can successfully pull that off, then you *win the round.*2maintitlebar_content6205cb6d9ea0c00
leafsnackBUT: If you flip over any *Skull discs* when you are the [blue]challenger[/blue], you have *lost the round* and must discard a disc at random. All other discs are returned to their owners, and after each person plays their initial disc the round will begin again with last round's [blue]challenger[/blue] as the start player.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb6d9ea0c00
leafsnack*Back to our turn.* We've already put down one of our flowers at the start of the round, and now we must choose whether we want to play another disc, or issue a challenge and start the betting. If another player flips over your *Skull* during a challenge, the round is over and that player must lose one of their discs. Let's set up a trap for somebody and [blue]*Play a Skull*[/blue].4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb6d9ea0c10
leafsnack*Catherine* played a disc, then *Marcus* [red]issued a challenge[/red] for 2, saying: *"I think I can flip over [green]2 discs[/green] * *without revealing a Skull."* Since a challenge has been issued, no more discs may be played for the rest of the round. Once everyone else has passed, *the highest bidder must do the flipping.* Now, *Simón* must either [blue]increase the bid[/blue] or pass.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb8ee44c000
leafsnack*Simón* raised the bet to 3. Now it's *Nzinga's* turn, then it will be ours.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cb9cd2b9600
leafsnackWow! *Nzinga* just increased the bid by two, going from [blue]3 -> 5[/blue]. When bidding, you can pick any number larger than the current bid. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec6344c560.00399469.png[/img] Now it's our turn. We could increase the bid to 6+, but that would mean having to flip nearly every disc on the table if we ended up being the highest bidder. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbb210ccf00
leafsnackIf you're in the *betting phase* but you don't want to increase the bid, you can just click [blue]*Pass*[/blue]. This cycle will continue, each person either raising or passing, until everyone but the highest bidder have passed. Then, the highest bidder must flip however many discs they chose to bid. [red][Note: you are required to flip all of your own discs first, before anyone else's.][/red]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbb210ccf10
leafsnackAfter *Nzinga* increased the bet to 5, *we* passed, *Catherine* passed, and *Marcus* passed. [blue]*Simón*[/blue] is the only person left who hasn't passed (besides the highest bidder). If Simón increases the bid to [blue]*6+*[/blue], Nzinga will probably pass because increasing it further would be very risky. But if Simón passes, Nzinga is the challenger and must attempt to flip 5 flower discs.1maintitlebar_content6205cbce9a36e00
leafsnack*Simón* passes, leaving *Nzinga* as the highest bidder. Now, she must flip over how many discs she bid: *5* She can flip discs from any player's mat, but she must flip [red]all of her own discs[/red] over before anyone else's. Now, she just needs to reveal *3 more* flower discs to win the round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbd2dd9d400
leafsnackThere's one from *Catherine*'s mat, another flower. You can flip discs from any mat (in any order you choose), but you must always flip the top disc of the stack. *2 more!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbee5e39600
leafsnack*Nzinga* reveals one of Simón's flower discs. Now, she only needs to flip over [green]*one more* flower disc[/green] to win the round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbf783bc900
leafsnackOop! *Nzinga* just *[blue]flipped over our Skull[/blue]*. Since a *Skull* has been revealed, Nzinga's [red]challenge[/red] fails and the round is over. She must discard one of her discs at random, then we will begin the next round with her as the start player.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cbfc79a7000
leafsnackWe're nearing the end of our tutorial. The only thing left to run through is how to win a round, which can only be done by [red]making a challenge.[/red] If you end up as the [blue]highest bidder[/blue], you must flip over all discs that are currently on your mat before anyone else's. This means that if you place one of your *Skulls* on your mat and flip it, you will automatically lose the round.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc31d10f400
leafsnackClick [blue]"Play a Flower"[/blue] to put your initial disc for the round down.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc31d10f410
leafsnack*Nzinga* is the start player this round, and she placed another disc on her mat. Now it's our turn, and we have the choice to either play one of our discs or [red]issue a challenge.[/red] Click on the [blue]*#1*[/blue] to put forward an initial bid and start the betting phase.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc3e8cc9c10
leafsnackAfter we issued the challenge for 1, *Catherine* raised it to 2, *Marcus* passed, *Simón* raised it to 3, *Nzinga* passed. The betting has come back around to us, and we can either pass or raise it ourselves. *Click* the [blue]"4"[/blue] to raise the bet.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc881060310
leafsnackEveryone else at the table has *passed*. This leaves you as the highest bidder, meaning that [blue]you are the challenger this round.[/blue] Since the number you got stuck with is *4*, you must flip over 4 flower discs in order to win the round. But all of the discs on your mat will automatically flip first.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc93e40c300
leafsnackFlip *Simón*'s disc by clicking on it. !!! Then, we will fast forward to the end of the round.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6205cc93e4f5610mat-92156342 6
leafsnackWhen you win a round in *Skull*, you [blue]flip over your mat to the dark side[/blue]. This shows to everyone that you are only 1 round away from victory. If you succeed in a challenge and your mat is already on the dark side, [green]you are the winner.[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ec6365d0e8.74398423.png[/img] This is the end of our tutorial. You are now prepared to play *Skull*! 1gameaction_status_wrap6205cce5d94c800
