shinuitoA game of tumbleweed is between two players Red and White and begins with a setup phase.
The default setup places a [green]neutral 2 stack[/green] in the centre of the board (other setups allow free placement).1stack_6_6000stack_6_6 1
shinuitoNext one of the players, called the Host (initially with the red username), will place a 1 stack for both Red and White on any empty spaces on the board. For this tutorial the places will be fixed. 2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment010hex_6_4 17 player_name_91647097 1
shinuitoNow add the White 1 stack at the next position1maintitlebar_content619bb112557ed10hex_3_5 16
shinuitoAt this point the other player called the Guest (initially with the white username), chooses whether they would like to play Red or White.
By default the Host would play Red, so if the Guest wants the Red pieces they should choose to swap colours by placing a red piece in any legal position and start the game.
If they are happy to play White they choose to "keep colours" as they are.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb1138522300player_name_83854225 2
shinuitoThe opponent chose to play White and now that the colours are decided, it's time to start the game!
New stacks of your colour must be placed in lines of sight of your existing pieces. That is along straight lines from your own pieces but unobstructed by other pieces (the neutral, opponents or your own).

shinuitoFor example any of these are legal move

For the moment we'll choose just one of these spots.2page-title619bb131e7e0f10hex_8_7 16
shinuitoWhenever a new "stack" (piece) is played the number on the stack will be the number of lines of sight the tile was seen from. In this case we had only one tile, so any new stack has to be within its line of sight and so this first move will always be a 1 stack.
More on this later. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb15b9acc700stack_8_7 1
shinuitoLet's place a few more moves and see what happens.1maintitlebar_content619bb16dd984210hex_4_4 16
shinuitoWhite placed a 2 stack because this empty tile was in two lines of sight, from both of their previously placed tiles.

shinuitoThere are multiple places you can place a 2 stack. Lets pick one of them.

Can you see why this will be a 2 stack?2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb234cffd310hex_9_4 16
shinuitoLets place a few more pieces and then we can see how to capture the opponents pieces.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb24d81dfc10hex_9_6 16
shinuitoWhite has just placed a 1 stack in between two Red stacks. This piece can be captured in the next move by playing directly on top of it. But why?

It is because Red has more lines of sight (2, one from each 2 stack) on the white stack than its value or "height" of 1. Red can capture and place a 2 stack there.
Capture the white piece!1page-title619bb2639cc4a10
shinuitoCan you find another White piece to capture?1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb312c5fec10
shinuitoGood job! Press continue and lets do some more practice.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb335462eb00
shinuitoHow about now, is there another piece you can capture? What number (height) will the new piece be that replaces the captured one?1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb35518a7010
shinuitoDid you know it would be a 3 stack?

shinuitoIn any case play continues until there are no more reasonable moves left, in which case you can pass in order to count the game.
The player with the highest combined total of their own stacks on the board as well as controlled empty cells is the winner.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb3f261ce900
shinuito
In the image above Red has 46 points: 25 owned tiles (you can ignore their values/heights when counting) and 21 controlled tiles. These are empty but they have more red lines of sight on them than white lines of sight.
Similarly White has 45 points: 25 owned tiles and 20 controlled tiles.
Red wins by 1 point!2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb3f261ce900
shinuitoLastly, you can also resign if you want to end the game early, if you no longer feel you can win.
Winning by resignation is another way to win.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb3f261ce900
shinuitoWhite resigned.
Congrats and have fun learning to play Tumbleweed!
Happy Tumbling :)1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment619bb404a26c300
