Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed3addf0e3.35944085.jpg[/img] *You might call Yahtzee the original roll-and-write game!* This classic has captivated players, young and old, since 1956. [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Yahtzee,* players will roll dice and then reroll select dice up to 2 times to make the best possible set of 5 dice. They will then select a box on their score sheet, calculate the score for the dice, and write the score in the box. [blue]*When everyone's score sheets are filled up, whoever has the most points is the winner!*[/blue]2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerHere we have our five dice. We can select any number of them to reroll. [blue][tip] High numbers and identical numbers are generally strong in this game![/blue] *Select the [red]1[/red] and the [red]5.[/red] Then hit Re-roll!*3dice_slot_2010dice_slot_2 1 dice_slot_3 1 btnRerollDice 16
NekonyancerHmm, [red]*4, 4, 4, 5, 6.*[/red] This is a pretty good set! We have one more reroll available, but I think we'll stick with this.1dice_slot_2651b8c7b0371400
NekonyancerNext, let's take a look at the [green]*scorecard.*[/green] There are many different categories. The first six are very similar. If we score the [blue]*"fours"*[/blue] category, we will get points for each of the fours in our set. It specifically says [blue]*"Sum of fours,"*[/blue] so our other dice will not be counted for points.2category_4651b8c7b0371400category_4 2
NekonyancerThe game has automatically calculated this for us. We have three 4s, so we'd get [blue]*12 points*[/blue] for this category.3cell_4_11941354651b8c7b0371400cell_4_11941354 2
NekonyancerIf we chose to score this set for Ones, it would give us 1 point for each 1 die we had. We don't have any, so it would be worth 0 points. [green]It's still legal to choose this option though![/green]4category_1651b8c7b0371400
NekonyancerDown below, we have another seven categories. These seven each have a *requirement.* If our dice do not meet the requirement, we won't get any points. You need at least 3 dice with the same number to score [red]*"three of a kind."*[/red] Just below that, it says [red]*"Sum of all dice."*[/red] This is different from the earlier categories! This category will add the values of *ALL* your dice!5category_9651b8c7b0371400category_9 1
NekonyancerThat's why the precalculated result is [green]+23,[/green] not [green]+12.[/green] 23 is a decent score for three of a kind, so let's score this category. *Click on the +23 box!*6cell_9_11941354651b8c7b0371410cell_9_11941354 16
Nekonyancer*Good!* Now it's our opponent's turn.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment651b8c9bb194e00
Nekonyancer[blue]Okay, back to us.[/blue] Note that the "three of a kind" space is no longer green. That's because each category can only be scored once! We locked in with a pretty high score though!1cell_9_11941354651b8f71da8e500
NekonyancerWe got a good first roll, with two 6s and a 5. Let's see if we can get more high numbers! *Select the [red]two 1s.[/red] Then hit Re-roll!*2dice_slot_2651b8f71da8e510dice_slot_1 1 dice_slot_4 1 btnRerollDice 16
NekonyancerWe got another 6! We have one reroll left. Let's go all in on 6s. *Select the [red]4[/red] and [red]5.[/red] Then reroll!*1dice_slot_3651b90877711410dice_slot_1 1 dice_slot_3 1 btnRerollDice 16
Nekonyancer[blue]Wow, three 6s and two 5s![/blue] This is ideal for [red]*Three of a Kind,*[/red] but we already locked in our score.1dice_block651b90908cfb800category_9 1
NekonyancerWe could use this set for [green]*"Full House,"*[/green] which requires *3 of a kind* and *2 of a kind* in the same set. Full House is always worth a flat 25 points though. We can score that later with low numbers.2category_13651b90908cfb800category_13 3
Nekonyancer[blue]Let's score our Sixes category![/blue] We'll get 6 points for each of our 6s for a total of 18 points. Our 5s will not be scored. *Click here to lock in our score!*3cell_6_11941354651b90908cfb810cell_6_11941354 16
Nekonyancer[blue]I think you got the hang of it now![/blue] Just some final details to go over. You can learn about the other scoring categories by hovering over them with your mouse.1cell_14_11941354651b90a08f26d00
Nekonyancer[blue]There are two special rules for Yahtzee though.[/blue] *1.* If we manage to score points from the Yahtzee category (requiring 5 of a kind), and then we get *another* 5 of a kind and use it somewhere else, another *100* points will be added to our Yahtzee score!2category_14651b90a08f26d00
Nekonyancer*2.* Let's say you roll five 3s. If the [red]*Yahtzee*[/red] category and the [red]*Threes*[/red] category have already been filled, you can use the roll as a Straight or Full House instead.3category_14651b90a08f26d00category_3 1 category_14 1
NekonyancerNext, I need to explain the [blue]*Bonus.*[/blue] It's not a scorable category in itself, but if the sum of your first six categories is at least *63,* you'll score an extra *35* points! The negative number [red]*here*[/red] shows how many points you need from your remaining unscored categories.4category_7651b90a08f26d00category_7 2 cell_7_11941354 1
NekonyancerThe game will continue as you've seen for exactly *13 rounds,* which is the number of available scoring categories on the score sheet. [green]After that, whoever has the most points wins![/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment651b90a08f26d00
NekonyancerIf you get tired of Yahtzee, I suggest checking out one of the *variants* in the lobby options! They use mostly the same mechanics, but some use different numbers of dice and rerolls. Most of the changes are in the individual scoring categories, but they're all clearly labeled. [blue]Just hover over them with your mouse![/blue]6maintitlebar_content651b90a08f26d00
NekonyancerFinally, if you want to speed up the game, you might consider *simultaneous mode.* With this engaged, all players will be able to take each turn at the same time. When everyone finishes a turn, the results of the turn are revealed, and players are free to play the next turn.7maintitlebar_content651b90a08f26d00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Yahtzee!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to *PC23, A-dam,* and *ufm* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D8maintitlebar_content651b90a08f26d00
