#33520: "Some display suggestions"
acknowledged: Developers agree that it is a good idea and intend to work on it
What is this report about?
What happened? Please select from below
Suggestion: in my opinion, the following would greatly improve the game implementation
Detailed description
• Please explain your suggestion precisely and concisely so that it's as easy as possible to understand what you mean.
I have no idea how other players feel, but I would prefer to have the common board on top and my personal board just below it. This would incidentally make it so that you can see which color belongs to which player (from the right panel) and the main board at the same time.
Alternatively or on top of that, when hovering the move over an occupied space on the main board, it would be nice if the tooltip also said which player is occupying it (or if it is a condemned spot in a 2/3 players game)
White discs on the map are a bit too close to white empty city spots.
Perhaps we could have more colors to choose from ? Or a black dot on white empty city spots ?
• Which browser are you using?
Google Chrome v87

Feb 7th 2021 3:39 • The white discs are an atrocious color choice given the color of the spaces on the board. Just nix the white and use another color. (I realize the real game may use white but it doesn't translate well to virtual)

Feb 7th 2021 6:07 • Thank you for this suggestion. Tooltips of projects on the main board now update to indicate the name of the player or if they are blocked.
I don't have any plans to change the overall layout, but I am planning to add a zoom out button that should make it easier to see the entire board without relying on browser zoom.
The component color choice has been carefully designed by Ian O'Toole for colorblind accessibility and aesthetics, but unfortunately it becomes a bit difficult to make white tokens distinct from small city project sites with no transport bonus in a digital adaptation. The latest build should have more distinct shadows, which should help slightly. I will ask the publisher about incorporating the silk-screen printed designs into the discs on BGA once they have been designed.

Feb 10th 2021 4:57 • Is there some rule where the digital application has to IDENTICALLY match the IRL version? Surely a color change on one set of markers should be a reasonable accommodation and there are certainly more then four "color-blind friendly" choices. Every color is color blind friendly if no other color choice looks the same to a color blind person.

Feb 11th 2021 9:22 • Another thing that could help is to make the round tokens thicker.

Jun 22nd 2021 1:37 • I have added the silkscreen print pattern to the disks to make them easier to differentiate from the empty project sites in small cities.
Keeping this report open for the layout options/zoom suggestion.

Jun 24th 2021 15:03 • To have colors etc differ a bit between online games and the physical ones should be fine I think, especially if they are "carefully designed for colorblind accessibility" in the original.
What looks good and is easy to see/understand is of course different between the mediums and since the purpose obviously is to make it accessible and easy to understand, I would think it would be (very) ok to change it around a bit to reach that goal here as well..?
