Collect as much bamboo as you can, even if you don't currently have a card that requires the color you can get. Bamboo with the wrong color is better than nothing.
Try to have 5 objective cards in your hand at all times; this means your first two moves should be obtaining an objective card, and collecting an irrigation channel.
Watch the moves your opponent is making, and if it seems apparent they are trying to fulfil a specific objective, do your best to sabotage or delay their fulfilment.
When you have the question mark weather card in the early stages, the best tile to pick is irrigation.
Try to focus on multiple cards at once. So if you have two panda cards, try to focus on both of them at once.
