Thirty-one is a simple card game where players have a three card hand and the aim is to collect cards in a single suit worth 31 points or as near as possible to that total.
BGA implementation includes two similar games called as Thirty-one. In Schwimmen (or Schnautz), players exchange a card or three cards with the central face-up cards. In Blitz (or Scat), players draw a card from the deck or the discard pile and then discard a card.

Rules summary
Objective
Score the most points to avoid losing lives.
Game play
Select 1 action each turn:
- Swap 1 card in hand for 1 face-up card.
- Swap all cards in hand for all the face-up cards.
- Pass for the remainder of the round and keep the cards you have.
Scoring
Same Suit
- 2 or 3 cards.
- Add the values:

Same Value
- Must be 3 cards.
- Always scores 30.5.
Turn end
A player loses a life with:
- < 21 points, or
- ≥ 21 points & lowest or tied lowest score.
Options
- A commerce game using a piquet pack.
- A draw and discard game using a standard deck.
- Table creator can customize variant options.
- May exchange 1 or 3 cards with face-up cards.
- If all players consecutively pass, all face-up cards are replaced.
- Draw from the deck or discard pile, then discard.
- Cannot discard the same card taken from the discard pile.
- Three of a kind: 30.5 points.
- 3×A: 32 points.
- Three of a kind: 30.5 points.
- Dealer may exchange their hand with 3 cards from the deck before play begins.
- Draw and discard variant: exchanged cards are shuffled into the deck.
- Commerce variant: exchanged cards are used as the initial face-up cards.
- Suit (for regular hands) or the rank (for threes of a kind) breaks hand value ties.
- Round end by closing or 31: player with the lowest hand value loses a life.
- Round end by Fire: all players except the winner lose a life.
- Tie with the round closer: closer wins the tiebreak.
- Closer's score is the sole lowest: loses 1 more life.
- Round end: players with ≤ 20 points or lowest score > 20 lose 1 life (except the winner).
- Non-dealers cannot close the round during their 1st turn.
