TorselliBefore starting the game, let's understand some *key elements*.
2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Torselli*The Board*
The main board is formed by 7 territories, numbered 1 to 7, each one with 7 areas (circles) - 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 green and 1 purple. These areas are distributed in the same shape as the territories.
The area where a player takes his action *determines which territory the next action will be played on*. Keep this in mind - we'll see it in action during the tutorial.
3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Torselli*The Turn Order*
The first player will perform *one action*. Then, he will *choose* who the next player will be. The next player *performs 2 actions*, and chooses the next one. The last player will be the first player for the next round - he'll play *3 actions* in a row.
!!! In 2-player games, each player plays 2 times per round, alternating turns.

Torselli*Player Panel*
The player panel shows your score and the following info:
- Your available inhabitants.
- Your available floors.
- Your available ploy tokens.
!!! All this info is also displayed on your player board (scroll down to see it)

Torselli*Objectives*
There are two kinds of objectives in the game: *Common Projects* and *Secret Missions*.
*Common Projects* are displayed by the side of the board, and may be claimed by *any player* that fulfill their requirements. They grant points during the game.
[tip] You can hover your cursor over the objective cards to read more details about them.
6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Torselli*Secret Missions* are individual end-game bonuses. At the beginning of game, each player will choose 2 (from 4) *secret missions*. They must be *completely different* from each other.
!!! After you select your first mission, cards you cannot choose will be faded.
1secret-mission-1162f5c70468aa700
Torselli*The Round*
Each Round has two phases:
*1. Player Actions*
*2. Territory Control*
The number of player actions will depend on the turn order, as explained before.
1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c75e56aeb00
TorselliThe *torticrane* shows in which territory the action must be performed. The last player built on the bottom-left area of the center territory, moving the torticrane to the *bottom-left territory* (number 5, where the torticrane is located and displayed in a white border.).3area4162f5c75e56aeb00area41 1
TorselliOne of the possible player actions is to *Construct a Building*. You choose one of the areas of the current territory and construct one of your building floors.
Each area shows how many inhabitants you need to build there. The first floor will need the *number displayed on the area*. The second floor will need *number + 1*. The third floor, *number + 2*, and so on. 4area5262f5c75e56aeb00
TorselliBuild your first floor in this area. You'll need *5 Inhabitants*, as displayed below it. Click the button *Construct building*...
[tip] When you click the Construct building button, number of inhabitants needed will be displayed in all areas of the current territory.5area5262f5c75e56aeb10
Torselli... and now select this area.1area5262f5c789f26a910area52 2
TorselliYou can build a floor on any *empty area* or *expand* one of your own buildings, as long they don't have a roof on it (more on that later).
[red]*You cannot build over other players' buildings.*[/red]1area5262f5c78b97e0c00
TorselliSince you built on this area, the torticrane stayed on the same territory (the position of the area is the same of the current territory). This will allow you to build another floor in the same building.
Construct another floor *on the same area*. You'll see the inhabitants needed is 6 (5 for the area + 1 for the second floor). Click Construct building button... 2area5262f5c78b97e0c10area52 1
Torselli... and this area again. 1area5262f5c78e4d1f910area52 2
TorselliYou construct buildings to fulfill the objectives' requirements. After your last action, two objectives are available to be claimed (you can only claim one per action).
This objective asks for a two-story building on a yellow area next to an unoccupied red area, and it grants 4 points. Click to claim it. 1common-project-2162f5c78fe3e5410
TorselliWhen you claim a common project, a *roof* will be placed on top of the last built floor.
A building with a roof *[red]cannot[/red]*:
- Be expanded.
- Be used to claim another *common project*.
- Score most of the *secret missions*.
A building with a roof *[green]can*[/green]:
- Be abandoned.
- Be invaded.1building-floor-5262f5c7992488300
TorselliAfter the last player of the round performs his second action, the round goes to *Phase 2 - Territory Control*.
Each territory, in order (1 to 7), will be reviewed. In each territory, the player with *the most floors* will receive *2 inhabitants*.
If there's a tie, *all tied players receive 1 inhabitant*.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c8467028b00
TorselliLet's skip some other players' turns now... 2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c8467319b00
TorselliThe other possible regular player action is to *Abandon a building*. When you abandon a building, you get your floor pieces back, and *two times the inhabitants* needed to build it.
!!! It [red]*does not*[/red] matter if the building has a roof or not. 1area5262f5c91a8ba8d00
TorselliLet's abandon this building. The cost to build it was 5 + 6 = 11 inhabitants. So you'll receive *22 inhabitants* when abandoning it.
Click *Abandon building* button... 2area5262f5c91a8ba8d10
Torselli... and now choose this building. 1area5262f5c927d669610area52 2
TorselliBesides the two regular actions, each player has *4 ploy tokens* that allow them to perform *special actions*.
!!! A player can use only 1 ploy token *per action*. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c96d5231a00
TorselliOne of the possible actions is *Strategic Movement*. If you don't want to perform an action where the torticrane is located, you may spend 1 ploy token to move it to a territory *one number lower or higher*.
[red]!!! Strategic Movement *does not* count as a player action[/red].2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c96d5231a00
TorselliLet's use the *Strategic Movement*. Since the torticrane is located on territory 5, you can move it to territory 4 or 6. Click *Ploy Token* button... 3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c96d5231a10
Torselli... and *Move to territory 4*. 1strategicMovementDown-button62f5c97823c8e10
TorselliYou can construct in purple (bramble) areas. First, you have to choose one type of land (green, yellow or red) to transform the bramble into. The available bramble tokens are displayed in the highlighted area. All tokens have the same value: *5 inhabitants*. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c97d20a1f00remaining-bramble-tokens 1
TorselliLet's construct on the bramble area: click the *Construct building* button...2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c97d20a1f10
Torselliselect this *bramble* area... 1area4362f5c981e088010area43 2
Torselli... and the red land. 1chooseTypeOfLand3-button62f5c9835e5a310chooseTypeOfLand3-button 2
TorselliSince we were the last player for the last round, we'll start the new round with one action.
Let's see another ploy token action: *building invasion*. With building invasion, you can *take over* another player's building!
[green]!!! Building invasion *does* count as one of the players' actions.[/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c9879403b00
TorselliThe cost to invade a building is *two times* the inhabitants needed to build it. These inhabitants will be *given to the player whose building is invaded*.
Let's invade this building. Click *Use ploy token*...2area2362f5c9879403b10
Torselli... building invasion ... 1usePloyToken1-button62f5c995746d210
Torselli... and click this building.
Since the total cost of this building is *4 inhabitants*, twice this value (*8 inhabitants*) will be deducted from your population and given to the [blue]*blue player*[/blue]. 1area2362f5c9975616610area23 2
TorselliNow you can choose who plays next. Choose *BungaW* as the next player.
[tip] Choosing the next player can be strategically important. Use it wisely!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c998d3d2310
TorselliThe remaining ploy token action is *Roof transfer*. By spending one ploy token, you can transfer a roof from one of your buildings *on the active territory* to another of your buildings *constructed on the same type of land*, anywhere on the board.
[red]!!! Roof transfer *does not* count as a player action.[/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c99e5fb9f00
TorselliThe endgame is triggered when a player *constructs all of his floors*. The round is played until the end, there's one more *Territory Control* phase, and the game is over. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c9b7e379b00
TorselliEach player now will evaluate their *Secret Missions*. Some secret missions can be accomplished several times, as long as the player has built the required buildings.
!!! Buildings with a roof *cannot* be used to score secret missions, *except for the Territory Control* ones.
[green]*!!! Next comment will be down by the player boards. Scroll down to see it!*[/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c9b7e379b00
TorselliFinally the *inhabitants* left will score points, positive or negative, depending on how many are left.
*!!! You can check the inhabitants score table by hovering the cursor over your player board.* 3player-table-1460202-inhabitant-scores62f5c9b7e379b00
TorselliFinal score will be:
- Common projects claimed during the game.
- Secret Mission Score
- Inhabitants Score
The player with the most points is *the winner*!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment62f5c9b7e379b00
TorselliThis is it for *Garden Nation*. Now give it a chance - it's a very clever game with some nice (and different) mechanics. Hope you enjoy it!
