Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_wtVlCI.jpg[/img] The [red]Day clan[/red] and the [blue]Night clan[/blue] are caught in a never-ending battle for the possession of [green]Lumen[/green] - the source of life and power. You must lead one of these clans to victory! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerEach turn, [red]*these two dice*[/red] will be rolled. The two players can then choose a mathematical operation to end up with a single number. This number will then be written on their *command boards.* Combinations of numbers translate to *movement* or *deployment* actions, helping players gain control of the Lost World! [green]After 17 turns, whoever has the most Lumen wins the game![/green]2c_die_2000dice 6
Nekonyancer[red]Let's get started![/red] Looks like 1 and 5 were rolled. The first thing we have to do is choose one of five *operations* for the dice. [blue]We can choose...[/blue] *High number:* 5 *Low number:* 1 *Difference:* 4 (5-1) *Sum:* 6 (5+1) *Product:* 5 (5x1)3c_die_2000
NekonyancerLet's go with... uh... difference! *Click on " - 4 " at the top!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment010chooseOperation3_button 16
NekonyancerNow we have to write a 4 somewhere on our *command board.* But where is this board? Well, you could scroll down to find it, but let's use this button instead. *Click here. Then click on "Continue."*1display-fit-map-and-board6424f70786d5500display-fit-map-and-board 16
Nekonyancer[blue]Ah, that's better.[/blue] Here's our Command Board. We have to write our 4 into one of these empty bubbles. Since this is the first turn, we can write *anywhere.* On future turns, we can only write *adjacent* to other filled bubbles! *Click on the faded X!*2player-table-11941354-circle126424f70786d5510player-table-11941354-circle12 13
NekonyancerGreat! *Now click on Confirm at the top!*1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f70ab7e3910confirmCell_button 16
Nekonyancer*Okay, that's the end of our turn!* Now take a look at this chart on the right side of your Command Board. [green]This chart keeps track of how many times you use each operation![/green] As you can see, the High and Low operations can only be used *3 times each.* The others can be used *4 times each,* making a total of 17 turns.1player-table-11941354-operation4-number46424f70ce82b300
NekonyancerThis little blue thingy is the [blue]*first player marker.*[/blue] We have it because we acted *first* this round. It's pointing to the operation we took because our opponent is [red]not allowed to use the same operation[/red] this round! Let's see what they decide to do...2player-table-11941354-first-player-token6424f70ce82b300player-table-11941354-first-player-token 7
NekonyancerThey used the *multiply* operation and wrote a *5!* That was the end of the round, so the [red]*dice*[/red] were rolled again and the *first player marker* (see arrow) was given to the other player. That means they have to take another turn...1player-table-92143487-circle116424f71d4abea00dice 6 first-player-token 12
Nekonyancer... and now it's our turn! So, I bet you're a little confused right now. "What's the point of all this number stuff? I thought this was a game of world domination!" Well, the domination part happens whenever you write [red]consecutive[/red] or [red]identical[/red] numbers in the grid.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f79a679b400
NekonyancerYou'll see what I mean. *Select the High operation (3)!*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f79a679b410chooseOperation2_button 16
NekonyancerGood! As I mentioned earlier, we can now only fill in bubbles that are adjacent to other filled bubbles. *Select the bubble to the right of the 4!*1player-table-11941354-circle136424f7b58666810player-table-11941354-circle13 13
NekonyancerGreat! Since the 4 and 3 are consecutive numbers, they form a *chain of orders,* indicated by the line between them. [blue]When you form a chain, you can take one movement/activation action per new number in the chain![/blue]1player-table-11941354-circle136424f7b85fe3000
NekonyancerBefore I get into movement, I'll explain a little bit about the world! Hmm, we need to get a closer look though... *Click here, then continue!*1display-fit-map6424f7bce669c00display-fit-map 16
NekonyancerAh, that's better. As you can see, The Lost World is split into many different territories. Each territory is worth a different amount of Lumen, represented by [blue]small blue crystals.[/blue] [green][tip] If you don't want to count crystals, just hover over a territory! The tooltip will tell you how many points it's worth![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f7bce669c00
NekonyancerWe started with [red]two units on the board[/red] - one in a northern green (summer) territory and one in a southern blue (winter) territory. Can you see them? [red]They're pulsing red right now.[/red] Since we made a *chain of orders,* we can make these units move into adjacent territories.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f7bce669c00
NekonyancerWhen we do, we can flip over *discover tokens -* the big purple things on most of the territories! Most of them will provide nice bonuses!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f7bce669c00
Nekonyancer[red]Let's try it![/red] *Select the unit in the northern summer territory!* *Then select "Move."*5territory-mask-156424f7bce669c10
NekonyancerNow we can select an adjacent territory to move into. *Move into the [blue]winter[/blue] territory to the west!*1territory-mask-416424f7c526ed710
Nekonyancer[red]Excellent![/red] This discover token turned out to be *loot!* This one is worth 4 points. It will stay where it is until the difference between the strength of the two players' units in that territory is equal to or greater than the number shown on the token.1territory-mask-416424f7c631f0e00
NekonyancerIf you hover over our own unit, the tooltip will tell you that it has a strength of *1.* We'll have to put more units here so that our total strength is at least 4 more than our opponent's strength. [blue]Then the loot will be ours![/blue]2card-11-front6424f7c631f0e00
NekonyancerThere were *two* numbers in the chain we made, so we still have one more movement action! *Select our other unit. Click on "Move."*3card-2-front6424f7c631f0e10
Nekonyancer*Move the unit east, to the summer territory!*1territory-mask-656424f7d32177910
NekonyancerNice! The discover token gave us an X in our [blue]*High Command Area.*[/blue] Normally, you get Xs here whenever you write a *7 or above* on your command board. When all the boxes under a particular slot are "X-ed," we'll draw a special tile. [green]You'll see it later![/green]1player-table-11941354-check-legend6424f7d6426fc00player-table-11941354-check-legend 7
NekonyancerAlright, the next round started! This time, let's make an *area* of identical numbers. *Chains* of consecutive numbers grant [red]movement/activation[/red] actions. *Areas* of identical numbers grant [blue]deployment[/blue] actions. We'll need a 3 for this. *Choose " + 3 " as our operation!*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f7d6426fc10chooseOperation4_button 16
Nekonyancer*Select the bubble to the right of our other "3!"*1player-table-11941354-circle146424f7ec0753710player-table-11941354-circle14 13
NekonyancerGreat! As you can see, the two 3s turned green, indicating an *area.* And since there are *two* numbers in this new area, we get *two* deployment actions!1player-table-11941354-circle146424f801d036b00
NekonyancerYou'll always have [blue]*three troops ready for deployment here.*[/blue] *Let's start by selecting the Shroomling!* (The one on the right!)2card-7-front6424f801d036b10player-table-11941354-reserve 7
NekonyancerNow we can choose where we want to deploy him! We can only select territories in which we have other troops. *Put him in the northern winter territory!*1territory-mask-416424f8077593010
Nekonyancer[red]Good![/red] *Next, select The Feathered.*1card-13-front6424f809199c910
Nekonyancer*And place it in the same territory!*1territory-mask-416424f80bb541610
Nekonyancer[red]Excellent![/red] We had a total of *4* strength in that territory, which was 4 or more than our opponent's strength (0). That means we got to claim the [blue]*loot token,*[/blue] which is now stored on our Command Board!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f80f0e9a300player-table-11941354-discover-tiles 7
NekonyancerAs you can see, more troops were drawn randomly from a [red]*bag*[/red] (in your player information panel) to replace the ones we deployed.2card-5-front6424f80f0e9a300bag-11941354 6
NekonyancerNext, let's learn about *Activation.* We acquire activation actions the same way as movement actions. [red]Hmm, which number do we need?[/red]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f9301133b00
NekonyancerWe need *consecutive* numbers to make a *chain of orders.* Take a look at your command board. We can make a chain by putting a 2 in one of [red]*these spots*[/red] or a 4 in [blue]*this spot.*[/blue]2player-table-11941354-circle66424f9301133b00player-table-11941354-circle6 6 player-table-11941354-circle7 6 player-table-11941354-circle8 7
NekonyancerPlacing a 3 in one of [red]*these spots,*[/red] connecting to the 4, would not work because there can only be 1 of each number in a chain. We can't add a second 3 to the same chain!3player-table-11941354-circle66424f9301133b00player-table-11941354-circle5 6 player-table-11941354-circle6 6 player-table-11941354-circle11 6 player-table-11941354-circle18 6
NekonyancerLet's go with the difference operation for this one. [red]*Click here!*[/red]4chooseOperation3_button6424f9301133b10chooseOperation3_button 6
Nekonyancer*Now place the 2 here!*1player-table-11941354-circle66424f93bcfdff10player-table-11941354-circle6 13
Nekonyancer[blue]Excellent![/blue] We added *one* number to this chain, giving us *one* movement/activation action.1player-table-11941354-circle136424f945540d500
Nekonyancer[red]Zoom in on the world map again![/red] I'm sure you've noticed by now that almost every troop has a special *activated ability.* You can see each unit's ability by hovering over it with your mouse. *Select The Feathered! Then select "Activate!"*2territory-mask-416424f945540d510
Nekonyancer[blue]Good![/blue] Did you notice that the unit just flipped over? That means it used its ability and is now on the *"inactive"* side. It can't use the ability again unless something else causes it to flip to its active side again! Now then, let's resolve The Feathered's ability, which is to [green]fly to any territory.[/green] Hmm... where should we go?1territory-mask-416424f94a06eeb00
NekonyancerThis is a good time to explain [blue]*objectives.*[/blue] You'll need to scroll down to see them! There are three in every game, but they vary depending on which world map you're playing on.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f94a06eeb01scenario-objectives 7
NekonyancerWe can use The Feathered's fly ability to easily complete this *"Frontiers"* objective!3objective-tokens-legend-A6424f94a06eeb00
NekonyancerThe *"B"* marker is straddling two territories, and we already control one of the two. *Select the winter territory to fly there!*4initiative-marker6424f94a06eeb10
NekonyancerExcellent! We completed the objective and picked up an [blue]*objective token.*[/blue] Looks like it's worth 5 points! It's in a different box than the [red]*loot token*[/red] we got earlier because our objective tokens are *secret.*1player-table-11941354-objective-tokens6424f951478e600player-table-11941354-objective-tokens 7 player-table-11941354-discover-tiles 6
NekonyancerWe also picked up another *discover token.* This one turned out to be *interference!* *Interference* allows us to scribble out one of our opponent's bubbles, making it unusable! Hmm... [red]Which spot should we scribble out?[/red]2player-table-92143487-circles6424f951478e600
NekonyancerMmm... maybe this one? *Click here!*3player-table-92143487-circle166424f951478e610player-table-92143487-circle16 13
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* Oh, one more thing to mention about that winter territory - [blue]*the initiative marker.*[/blue] Whoever *controls* this territory - that is, has more total fighter strength - controls the initiative marker, and will take the [red]*first player marker*[/red] next turn! That means that, unless our opponent manages to take this territory from us, we'll be the first player *every turn!*1initiative-marker6424f99a7549900initiative-marker 7 first-player-token 6
NekonyancerAlright, there's just one more thing I want to show you. Earlier, we got an *X* in our High Command area. Let's get another *X* the normal way. [green]All we have to do is write a number that is greater than or equal to 7![/green] *Select " + 8 " at the top!*2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f99a7549910chooseOperation4_button 16
Nekonyancer*Place the 8 here!*1player-table-11941354-circle116424f9ae30a0110player-table-11941354-circle11 13
NekonyancerGood! Since both boxes under the first High Command slot were X-ed, we drew a tile from the [blue]*neutral bag!*[/blue] Ooh, this one is a *mercenary.* Specifically, the *Epic Assassin.* [red]We can deploy it later and wreak havoc on the battlefield![/red]1player-table-11941354-check-legend6424f9b86370a00overall_player_board_0 7
NekonyancerIn addition to mercenaries, there are two other kinds of tiles in the neutral bag: [blue]Glow tiles and Secret Missions.[/blue] *Glow tiles* are single-use spells. You can use them with a movement/activation action. Afterward, they are shuffled back into the neutral bag. Here's an example: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_Zr6hPC.jpg[/img]2card-44-front6424f9b86370a00
Nekonyancer*Secret Missions* are... missions! If you complete them, you can get more [blue]*objective tokens!*[/blue] Here's an example: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_Qk4Ezg.jpg[/img]3card-44-front6424f9b86370a00
Nekonyancer[blue]Alright, I think you've seen enough![/blue] The game will continue as you've seen for *17 rounds.* Then BGA will check each territory. Whoever has more strength in each territory will win that territory's [green]Lumen![/green]4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f9b86370a00
NekonyancerFinally, each player's Lumen is counted up. This includes: *- Controlled territories.* *- Loot tokens.* (A kind of discover token) *- Objective tokens.* [green]Whoever has the most Lumen is the winner![/green] [blue]Tiebreaker:[/blue] the holder of the initiative token!5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f9b86370a00
Nekonyancer[blue]One last thing to mention![/blue] You can pick from *seven different scenarios* in the lobby options. Each one features a different map, different objectives, and sometimes unique rules! Don't worry, each map's features are clearly explained in-game.6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f9b86370a00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Lumen!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Thoun* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6424f9b86370a00
