Ant50Welcome to *The Number*! This is a *bluffing game* where you try to have the *highest score* at the end of two rounds.1tn_player_number_0000
Ant50You *gain* points by writing numbers, [blue]ranging from 000 to 999[/blue]. 2tn_player_number_0000
Ant50Notice the scoring pad in front of you. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_cCiIjT.jpg[/img] It tracks *both* the numbers you have used, as well as any points you have earned, for the round.3tn_player_number_0000
Ant50A game last for *two* rounds, with each round lasting for *five* turns. For our first turn, let us play the number *277*. [tip] Select the digits *2* *7* *7* on your board in that order and click *Confirm*. [tip]1tn_player_number_064bcac168450310
Ant50What just happened and why do we only have *two* points? Let us take a moment to understand the scoring phase.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac3b077a200
Ant50The scoring phase is as follows: i) The numbers played are arranged in *descending* order, with the biggest number on top and the smallest number below. ii) Starting with the largest number, the digits are compared to see if it is contained in a number below it. If there is a similar digit, the number played is *invalid* and the player scores no points. If not, the number played is *valid*.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac3b077a200
Ant50iii) Repeat this step for the next number in the list. iv) Once all numbers have been compared, the valid numbers score the value of its *left-most digit*! [tip] The smallest number played is *guaranteed* to be valid. [tip]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac3b077a200
Ant50Our number, *277*, scored *two* points. The middle number, *323*, was invalid because the digit 2 is contained in our number. :D The biggest number, *888*, scores *ten* points. Where did those two additional points come from?4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac3b077a200
Ant50Let us look on our scoring pad. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_iES29g.jpg[/img] The small numbers on top indicate *bonus points* for the *biggest valid number* played for that particular turn. For example: In this turn since the biggest valid number is 888, our opponent scored 8 + 2 (bonus points) = 10 points for that turn.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac3b077a200
Ant50The digits we used in previous turns are *crossed* *off* our board. These will remain *unavailable* for the remainder of the round. Why does Green (also indicated by the triangle on their board) have all their digits available?1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac402607400
Ant50This is because the number they played previously was *invalid*. When you play an *invalid number* you do not cross off any digits from your board, but your score for the turn will be *zero*. !!! If all your digits are crossed off and there are still turns left, you will get zero points for those turns since you cannot make any valid number. !!!2tn_player_number_064bcac402607400
Ant50Let us make the number *888* this turn. [tip] Select the digit *8* on your board *three times* then click *Confirm*. [tip]3tn_player_number_064bcac402607410
Ant50Well done! We had the *biggest valid number* and scored 11 points that turn. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcac6bada3f00
Ant50Let's try to get our opponents to play invalid numbers by making *446*. [tip] Select the digits *4* *4* and *6* on your board then click *Confirm*. [tip]1tn_player_number_064bcaca16a0e710
Ant50That's a shame :( Nobody played either of our numbers. We don't have much available digits left so we need to play carefully.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcaca21dc8300
Ant50Let's try that again by playing the number *135*. [tip] Select the digits *1* *3* *5* on your board then click *Confirm*. [tip]1tn_player_number_064bcaccce0c6910
Ant50We only have two digits left. Let us play *999* and see what happens. :/ [tip] Select the digit *9* on your board *three times* then click *Confirm*. [tip]1tn_player_number_064bcace7b77fe10
Ant50We scored *26* points. :) On turn five (this turn), the digit score is doubled. The bonus is then added if you played the biggest valid number.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcad190134300
Ant50What is this box? [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_0dg75b.jpg[/img] At the end of the round, you score additional points depending on how many digits are crossed off from your board. Since we crossed off *nine digits* from our board, we scored *9* points.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcad190134300tn_player_board_action_closed_0_2 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_7 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_8 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_4 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_6 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_1 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_3 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_5 13 tn_player_board_action_closed_0_9 13
Ant50Once all scores are calculated, the second round begins and all boards are cleared. Gameplay is the same for this new round. [blue]The person with the highest score at the end of two rounds wins! [/blue]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcad190134300
Ant50Congratulations on making it to the end of this tutorial! You are now ready to play *The Number*. :) Thank you to *Moof* for bringing this game to BGA!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64bcad190134300
