Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_rDamvN.jpg[/img] Don't let the cutesy looks fool you into thinking this is an easy game! Can you keep the lions away from the anteaters on the savannah plains? Are your sloths lonely or living a happy life on an open-air island? Your [blue]*Zuuli*[/blue] adventure awaits! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn *Zuuli,* players will rescue animals, keep them in enclosures, and upgrade those enclosures over three years (rounds). Each animal has different enclosure requirements and victory point values. Points are awarded at the end of each year. [green]Whoever has the most points after three rounds is the winner![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[blue]Each year is divided into 4 simple steps:[/blue] *1.* Deal cards. *2.* Pick and pass cards. *3.* Develop parks. *4.* Score.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
Nekonyancer[green]*Step 1: Deal cards.*[/green]--- At the beginning of each year, each player is dealt some [red]*cards.*[/red] The number of cards depends on the *round* and *number of players:* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_pOmftF.jpg[/img] [blue]This tutorial was made from a 2-player game, and it's currently Year 1, so we were dealt 10 cards.[/blue]4drawed-me000drawed-me 1
Nekonyancer[green]*Step 2: Pick and pass cards.*[/green]---Each player will pick one card from their hand to keep. The rest of the hand will be passed to our opponent. [blue]Let's try it![/blue] *Select the Lion. Then click on "Pick Selected Card" at the top!*6C1-1010C1-1 16
Nekonyancer*Good!* The lion was moved into our [blue]*"Picked Cards"*[/blue] box. The rest of the hand was given to our opponent, and we received the rest of our opponent's hand in return.1picked-me64e99aab94f3400picked-me 7
NekonyancerI'll get to the *Develop Park* and *Score* steps later. First, I'll tell you more about the cards. There are three types of cards: *animal, enclosure, and upgrade.* [red]*The card we just picked*[/red] is an *animal* type card. Big shocker, I know.2C1-164e99aab94f3400C1-1 1
NekonyancerEach animal card has five critical bits of information: [red]*Trait.*[/red] [blue]*Victory point value.*[/blue] [green]*Space required.*[/green] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_CJqelS.jpg[/img] *Additional rules specific to this animal.* The fifth bit is the *habitat,* which is indicated by the background.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99aab94f3400
NekonyancerAn animal's [red]*trait*[/red] can be either *fierce* or *friendly.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_Uklxf5.jpg[/img] *Fierce* animals cannot live with different animals. In other words, this lion can only peacefully coexist with other lions. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_B8mZHO.jpg[/img] *Friendly* animals have no restrictions.4C1-164e99aab94f3400
NekonyancerThe lion's *additional rules* (at the bottom of the card) say that they need less space if kept with other lions. [green]It would probably be smart to get more lions then![/green] *Take the another lion from your current hand!* (You may need to minimize this box.)5C1-164e99aab94f3410C1-11 16
Nekonyancer*Good!* Our pride of lions is off to a great start. Just like before, we exchanged the rest of our hand with our opponent. [blue]So where are our lions going to live anyway?[/blue]1C1-1164e99abc3f8d700
NekonyancerIn an *Enclosure.* Each player started with an Enclosure called [blue]*"New Plot."*[/blue]2enc_2_1_164e99abc3f8d700
NekonyancerHere's what you need to know about enclosure cards: [red]*Satisfaction multiplier:*[/red] multiplies the points of animals kept here. [blue]*Space available.*[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_1hPU9L.jpg[/img] [green]*Additional rules specific to this card.*[/green]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99abc3f8d700
NekonyancerThe background of the card also indicates its *habitat,* which determines which animals it can accommodate. [green]Yellow = Plains. Green = Jungle. Blue = Water.[/green] The [blue]*New Plot*[/blue] card features all three habitats, so it can accommodate any animal!4enc_2_1_164e99abc3f8d700enc_2_1_1 7
NekonyancerNext, let's learn about *upgrade cards.* Upgrade cards can be attached to enclosures. If you need to know what an upgrade card does, just hover over it with your mouse! Hmm, this *expansion* card looks useful. *Take it!*5C1-2264e99abc3f8d710C1-22 16
NekonyancerWe're going to need more enclosures for our animals. Let's take the *Standard Pen,* which is an *enclosure* type card. It has 6 available space, and features Plains and Jungle habitats. *Take the Standard Pen!*1C1-3464e99afcd0b9510C1-34 16
NekonyancerThe round will continue as you've seen until all the cards have been distributed. [green]I'll skip ahead to that point now...[/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99b19bc41d00
Nekonyancer[red]Okay, here's our final hand of ten cards![/red] [green]*Step 3: Develop parks.*[/green]---Now each player must arrange their cards into enclosures while following *space, habitat,* and *trait* rules.1C1-4364e99ba53778000picked-me 1 enc_2_1_1 2 enc_2_2_1 2
NekonyancerLet's get our lions settled in first. Each lion requires *3 space* in a *Plains* habitat. Since they're *fierce,* they can only co-habitate with other lions. We have more than one lion, so they'll only use 2 space each instead of 3. *1.* Select a lion. *2.* Click on the space next to [blue]*New Plot.*[/blue] *3.* Do the same with the other lion. *4.* Continue to the next box.2C1-5564e99ba53778001C1-11 17 enclosure_2_1 18
NekonyancerUh-oh, I just realized something: [red]animals in our New Plot will only score if the enclosure is full.[/red] Right now, it's only using *4* out of *6* space, and we can't use any other animals to fill that space because lions are *fierce!* Luckily, we picked up the *Early Access* upgrade. It will negate New Plot's additional rules. *Place the Early Access card in the New Plot!*3enc_2_1_164e99ba53778000C1-53 16 enclosure_2_1 16
NekonyancerOur other *upgrade* card is Expansion. Since lions are *fierce,* this upgrade wouldn't do any good in the New Plot unless we had more lions. *Add it to the Standard Pen!*4picked-me64e99ba53778000C1-22 16 enclosure_2_2 16
NekonyancerNow for the rest of our animals. Hmm... how much *space* do we need for all of them? [blue]2 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 12.[/blue] We can't keep them with the lions... How much space do we have available in the [red]*Standard Pen?*[/red] [blue]6 + 2 = 8.[/blue] Uh-oh. Looks like some of our animals will have to sit out in the cold. But which ones? [green]How can we maximize our points?[/green]5C1-5564e99ba53778000enc_2_2_1 1 C1-22 1
NekonyancerTo maximize our points, the giraffe will have to stay outside. *Put the Anteater, Red Panda, and Sloths into the Standard Pen.*6C1-5564e99ba53778000C1-47 13
NekonyancerYour Park should look like this now: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/https___snipboard.io_hCP3SV.jpg[/img] At this point, we would click on *"Confirm Placed Cards"* at the top, but that step doesn't work in tutorial mode. Click on *continue* instead.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99ba53778000
Nekonyancer[green]*Step 4: End of year.*[/green]---This is the *scoring* step. Animals in enclosures score points. Animals that are *not* in enclosures score *negative* points. [red]Then they run away![/red] In this case, we couldn't accommodate the [blue]*Giraffe,*[/blue] so we're getting -3 points for it. Goodbye, giraffe... sorry we let you down. 😭1C1-5664e99c1bdf8b800C1-56 2
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, that's the end of Year 1![/green] Each player was dealt a [red]*new hand*[/red] of cards for Year 2. Year 2 and 3 will follow the same procedure as Year 1. (Deal cards, pick and pass cards, develop parks, end-of-year scoring.)1drawed-me64e99c3735c7600drawed-me 1
NekonyancerIn the *Develop parks* of Years 2 and 3, players will have to arrange the cards they drafted that year *AND* all the animals from previous rounds. (Except the ones that ran away.) [blue]Animals from previous rounds can be moved around however you like, but Upgrades are locked in place![/blue]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99c3735c7600
Nekonyancer*Okay, that's everything!* After the third year, whoever has the [green]most points[/green] wins! If there's a tie, whoever has the most [green]unique animals[/green] wins!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99c3735c7600
NekonyancerOne more thing I have to mention: *Solo mode.* In Solo mode, instead of drafting cards, you will draw two cards each turn, keep one of them, and give the other one to *"The Collector."* This will be done *10/9/8* times in the *1st/2nd/3rd* year. The rest of the game is the same for the player.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99c3735c7600
Nekonyancer[red]The Collector[/red] ignores all their enclosure and upgrade cards. They score points for all their animals while ignoring traits, habitats, and space requirements. [blue]They also get 1 bonus point per animal with...[/blue] ... a *plains* habitat requirement in Year 1 ... a *jungle* habitat requirement in Year 2 ... a *water* habitat requirement in Year 3. [green]If you beat the collector, you win![/green]5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99c3735c7600
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Zuuli!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *n_e_s_s_u_n_o* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment64e99c3735c7600
