Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed468379b3.51833198.jpg[/img] After a long journey, you have finally arrived in a new land. You immediately begin the arduous task of building and developing your city - this time with dice! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerIn [blue]My City: Roll & Build,[/blue] players will simultaneously lay polyomino-shaped buildings into their city in a way that scores the most points. After scoring, a new episode will start. There are *12* episodes in this game, each with new mechanics to spice up the game. The episodes are also grouped into four thematic *chapters!*2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn the game lobby, you can choose to play this game as... • A *full campaign* of 12 episodes. • A *mini-campaign* that features episodes 3, 6, and 12. • A *single chapter* consisting of 3 consecutive episodes. • A *single episode.* [blue]This tutorial will showcase Episode 3.[/blue]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
NekonyancerTo start the episode, we need to click on the [red]*"Start episode"*[/red] button. You can find it yourself, right? *Go ahead and click on it. Then click on "Continue."*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000cty_intro_button_start 1
NekonyancerYou should be able to see three boxes now. [red]*This one*[/red] tells you about the new scoring rule. Every episode has a new rule! The big gray one below it covers all the scoring rules that are currently in effect, including ones that were introduced in previous episodes.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000cty_header_warning 6
NekonyancerIf you click on the big gray box, it will disappear. If you need to check it again later, you can click on the small [red]*Episode 3 box*[/red] at the top. *Go ahead and click on the big gray box to get rid of it. Then continue.*6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000cty_button_episode 1
NekonyancerNow you should be able to see [blue]*three dice.*[/blue] Every turn, the three dice will be rolled. - The dark blue dice will be combined to form a *shape.* - The white die will determine what *type* of building will be placed. [green]All players will then place that building somewhere in their city (or pass)![/green]7maintitlebar_content000cty_header_dice 2
NekonyancerYou should already be able to see the top of a landscape grid. [green]Your city will be built there![/green] *Scroll down so you can see the whole thing.* To the left of your city, you should be able to see the building that was generated by the three dice.8maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerYou can click and drag the building to move it. The four buttons above the building allow you to rotate and flip it however you like. Go ahead and play around with them! You should only click the [red]X button[/red] at the bottom if you don't want to place the building in your city, which incurs a penalty. The [green]✔ button[/green] is used to validate your building placement.9maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerThere are probably some [red]red Xs[/red] on your building right now, indicating that the current placement is [red]illegal.[/red] (The black Xs indicate the building type). In addition to other rules that we'll get into later, the first building must be placed with at least *1 of its squares adjacent to the river.* Just the corner isn't good enough!10maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerMove the current building so that it matches this image: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed469db2f7.63378373.jpg[/img] In a normal game, you'd click on the checkmark, but for this tutorial, we'll use "Continue." *Click on "Continue!"*11maintitlebar_content000
Nekonyancer*Good!* Our first building was validated. The dice were rolled again for our next building. Now that our first building has been placed, all our upcoming buildings must be placed *adjacent* to an existing building. Again, that means [blue]one side of one square[/blue] must touch it!1mycityrb-die-36540abfa7c74500
NekonyancerThat's not the only limitation! Our buildings are not allowed to *straddle* the river. If you try, [red]red Xs[/red] will remind you of this! [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed46b8c9c0.03990777.jpg[/img] However, buildings placed on opposite sides of the river are still considered [blue]adjacent.[/blue]2cty_building_11941354_1_25_image6540abfa7c74500
NekonyancerPlace the building as shown in this image: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed46d471e2.55490680.jpg[/img] *Then continue!*3maintitlebar_content6540abfa7c74500
NekonyancerNext, do you see the *mountains* on the left side and the [green]*forest*[/green] (dark green areas) on the right side of your city? We can't place buildings in those areas. [blue]However, small rocks and trees are different![/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac202fdce00
NekonyancerSmall rocks are eyesores. We'll get [red]-1 point per rock[/red] at the end of the episode unless we cover them. Trees are the opposite - we'll score [green]+1 point each![/green] While I'm on the subject, empty spaces incur 1 point penalties as well. Spaces with rocks and trees do not count as empty spaces. So, a normal empty space is [red]-1 point.[/red] A space with two rocks on it is [red]-2 points![/red]2maintitlebar_content6540ac202fdce00
NekonyancerWith all that in mind, place the current building as shown here: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed47035253.67293357.jpg[/img] This will cover some rocks while avoiding the trees! *Click continue.*3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac202fdce00
NekonyancerYou're probably wondering why the last building was *solid black* and why the next one is *striped.* Again, these different designs were all determined by the white die, and they represent different types of buildings. At the end of the game, each player's [green]largest group of each building type[/green] will score points.1maintitlebar_content6540ac4f17bad00
NekonyancerBuildings must be adjacent to form a group. In this example, the player has five black buildings, but only four of them are adjacent to each other. They will score [green]4 points[/green] for black buildings at the end of the episode. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed471d47e1.08617958.jpg[/img] They will also score [green]4 points[/green] for striped buildings and [green]2 points[/green] for Xed buildings.2maintitlebar_content6540ac4f17bad00
NekonyancerNext, I'll talk about the *well,* which is introduced in episode 3. If we place four buildings adjacent to it, like this... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed474048a4.10588604.jpg[/img] ... [green]we'll score an extra 4 points![/green] We can also build over it if we need to, but we'd miss out on those points.3maintitlebar_content6540ac4f17bad00
NekonyancerWith that in mind, place the next building as shown here: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed475b7621.89501939.jpg[/img] *Then continue!*4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac4f17bad00
NekonyancerOkay, I think you got the hang of it. The last thing I have to explain is [red]*passing*[/red] and [red]*ending the episode.*[/red] *Click on the X under the current building or the [red]Pass[/red] button at the top. Then continue.*1maintitlebar_content6540ac700d1aa00
NekonyancerYou should be able to see three new buttons now: [blue]Pass (1 circle),[/blue] [red]End episode,[/red] and Cancel. [blue]Pass[/blue] means we don't want to build the current building, but we still want to build more afterward.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac700d1aa00
NekonyancerEach time we pass, we'll have to fill in a circle [red]*over here.*[/red] Each one incurs a point penalty!3cty_player_pass_119413546540ac700d1aa00cty_player_pass_11941354 1
NekonyancerIf we choose [red]"End episode,"[/red] our participation in the episode will be *over.* We won't have to fill in another circle, but we won't have any more opportunities to place buildings. !!! If you are unable to place a building and you've already filled up all your pass circles, you will be [red]forced[/red] to use this!4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac700d1aa00
NekonyancerOnce all players have ended their participation in the episode, the players' cities will be *scored!* Every episode will feature the following scoring conditions: [red]• - 1 point per empty space. • - 1 point per rock. • - X points for each pass used.[/red] • [green]+ 1 point per tree.[/green] This episode I featured in this tutorial also scores: [green]• +1 point per building in the largest group of each type. • +4 points if the well is adjacent to four buildings.[/green]5maintitlebar_content6540ac700d1aa00
NekonyancerAfter scoring, the game will move on to the next episode, with new scoring rules! [green]At the end of the game, whoever scored the most points[/green] (across all the episodes) [green]wins the game![/green]6archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment6540ac700d1aa00
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for My City: Roll & Build!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! A big thank you goes out to *Moof* for bringing this game to BGA! Have fun! :D7maintitlebar_content6540ac700d1aa00
