PillarAngel[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img6785ed7a907437.98992214.jpg[/img] Welcome to [green]*Pixies*[/green], an easy to learn and play *card collecting* game! [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000
PillarAngel[green]The goal of the game is to score the most points over 3 *rounds*[/green], which are gained in a few ways that we'll see as the tutorial goes on.2round-counter-wrapper000round-counter-wrapper 8
PillarAngelEach player has a [green]*3x3 grid*[/green] that will be slotted with *numbered cards* ranging from *1 to 9*. Each slot in a grid can only hold *1* card of that number.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment000player-table-83907939-cards-1 8 player-table-83907939-cards-2 8 player-table-83907939-cards-3 8 player-table-83907939-cards-4 8 player-table-83907939-cards-5 8 player-table-83907939-cards-6 8 player-table-83907939-cards-7 8 player-table-83907939-cards-8 8 player-table-83907939-cards-9 8 player-table-87262236-cards-1 8 player-table-87262236-cards-2 8 player-table-87262236-cards-3 8 player-table-87262236-cards-4 8 player-table-87262236-cards-5 8 player-table-87262236-cards-6 8 player-table-87262236-cards-7 8 player-table-87262236-cards-8 8 player-table-87262236-cards-9 8 player-table-87262244-cards-1 8 player-table-87262244-cards-2 8 player-table-87262244-cards-3 8 player-table-87262244-cards-4 8 player-table-87262244-cards-5 8 player-table-87262244-cards-6 8 player-table-87262244-cards-7 8 player-table-87262244-cards-8 8 player-table-87262244-cards-9 8
PillarAngelA number of cards will be drawn and revealed *equal to the number of players (4 in a 2 player game)*. Starting with a random player, each player, in turn order, selects one of the cards to place in their grid in the slot that *matches the number on the card they chose*. The last player to choose *must* take the remaining card. Looks like we get to choose first! *Select the [green]middle card (green 7)[/green]!*4card-55-front010
PillarAngelGreat! Now we have to select where we want to place the card. Since it's a *7*, it *has to* go in the [green]*7th slot*[/green]!1player-table-83907939-cards-765c65b9eb7a3910player-table-83907939-cards-7 8
PillarAngelNice! The card wont score anything yet, but we'll see how it can possibly score, along with other ways we can score in this game, a little later. Now all other players will select a card and place it into their grid, so let's sit back and watch for a bit while this happens!1card-55-front65c65ba00d7a400
PillarAngelAfter all the cards have been taken, more cards are revealed for players to add to their grid in the same manner as before starting with the player who *took the last card*, so *MsOrangeHill* will be taking first dibs!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65c65bc1d330400
PillarAngelIt's our turn to pick! We have a choice between a [blue]blue 9[/blue] and a [green]green 9[/green]. We're going to pick the [green]green 9[/green] for *2 reasons*: 1. Each "X" showing on a card will [red]lose you 1 point[/red] at the end of the round. 2. You'll score 2/3/4 points in round 1/2/3 per card in your *largest grouping* of cards that share the same color. A grouping consists of 2 or more cards with their *sides* touching. Cards that only have their corners touching *do not* count. [tip] A card can be one of *4* colors: red, green, blue, and yellow. Some cards are *multicolored* and count as *all 4 colors*! [tip] You can check a card's color at the bottom of the card, designated by a colored square and a unique icon for each color.1card-15-front65c65bcde761200
PillarAngelSo the [green]green 9[/green] has less Xs than the [blue]blue 9[/blue], and since we already have a [green]green 7[/green] we can set up to possibly get a [green]green 8[/green] later in the round to make a grouping of 3 green cards! With all that said, the [green]green 9[/green] sounds like a good card to me! *Select the [green]green 9[/green]!*3card-15-front65c65bcde761210
PillarAngelNow select the [green]*9th slot*[/green] to place the card!1player-table-83907939-cards-965c65bf24d52210player-table-83907939-cards-9 8
PillarAngelGreat job! Before we continue, let's wait for our turn to come back around again!1card-15-front65c65bf4e092600
PillarAngelThis time we're going last, and we *have to* take the last card!1card-68-front65c65c1bec94300
PillarAngelBut remember that only *one card matching the number of the slot* can be here! Well... That is only technically true!2card-15-front65c65c1bec94300
PillarAngelLet's see what happens when we take this card! *Select the [blue]blue 9[/blue]!*3card-68-front65c65c1bec94310
PillarAngelNow you are given a choice on which card you want to keep. Although we originally wanted to keep the [green]green 9[/green] for a possible color grouping, its not really guaranteed, and the [blue]blue 9[/blue] has *less Xs* than the [green]green 9[/green]. So let's aim to lose less points at the end of the round by *selecting the [blue]blue 9[/blue] to keep it!*1keepCard1_button65c65c1f37ae710
PillarAngelWhen you have to choose between 2 cards, the card that you *don't choose* gets flipped face down and the card you keep is *placed on top of it*. Cards that have a face down card under them are *validated*, which means they will score a number of points *equal to the number on the card*. So our [blue]blue 9[/blue] is now worth *9 points* at the end of the round! Wow! If you select a card that has to go into a slot with an *already validated card* (so as an example, if you get a *third 9*), that card will be flipped face down, and placed in *any empty slot* of your choosing. If a card with the corresponding number is placed in that slot later on, it'll immediately become validated!1card-15-back65c65c2259d4900
PillarAngelBefore we wrap up, let's look at the last two ways you can score points! Each *spiral* icon on a card is worth 1 point.2card-13-front65c65c2259d4900
PillarAngelA spiral icon with a *color* next to it scores 1 point *for each card* matching that color *anywhere* in your grid!3card-50-front65c65c2259d4900player-table-87262236-cards-4 2
PillarAngelThe round ends if, after all players have chosen a card, someone *completely fills their grid with cards*. In a 2 player game, this condition is checked after every *second card taken*. Players will score for their: -Validated cards -Largest color grouping -Spirals -Xs ([red]-1[/red] point each) !!! Face down cards *do not* count for any point calculations besides validating the card on top of it. Then all the cards are gathered back into the deck and a new round is played. [green]At the end of the third round, whoever has the most points wins! Tied players share the victory![/green]4round-counter-wrapper65c65c2259d4900round-counter-wrapper 8
PillarAngelNow you know how to play [green]*Pixies*[/green]! Have fun collecting those cute critters! 🐿️5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment65c65c2259d4900
