Nekonyancer[img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf606f14544.02577481.jpg[/img] You are a *cattle rancher,* repeatedly herding your cattle to El Paso, where you'll send them off by train. You ain't no namby-pamby city-slicker greenhorn, are ya? Then pony up and hold onto your ten-gallon hat! [blue]*Giddyap!*[/blue] [green][tip] This tutorial is best viewed on a computer![/green]1maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerIn *Great Western Trail: El Paso,* players will move their herders along a circular trail, using buildings and carefully managing their herd. When they reach El Paso, they'll want only their best cows on display! You'll need some capable staff: *cowboys* to improve your herd, *craftsmen* to build your own buildings, and *engineers* to operate the train. [green]At the end of the game, whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content000
NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, each player must select one [red]*objective tile.*[/red] If we satisfy a tile's condition at the end of the game, we'll score some extra points. There will always be three face up tiles to choose from. We can usually draw a random one from the stack if we don't like them, but not at the beginning of the game.3tile-54000deckmini_objective 13 tablemini_objective 1
NekonyancerAre there "?"s over all the tiles? That means you're in *Help Mode,* so you can click on anything to read details without fear of accidentally activating them. If not, you can still *hover* over them. You can use [blue]*this slider*[/blue] to toggle Help Mode on and off. [green]Go ahead and peruse through the available objectives. We got time.[/green]4help-mode-switch000help-mode-switch 2
NekonyancerWhen you're ready, move [blue]*the slider*[/blue] to the left to deactivate Help Mode. All the "?"s should be gone now. And while you're looking over here, note the *scale* bar just under the slider. Feel free to adjust it however you like as you play through the tutorial.5player_board_config000help-mode-switch 2
NekonyancerI'm a fan of buildings, so let's go with a building-focused objective. *Select [red]this objective.[/red] Then [blue]confirm[/blue] your choice.*6tile-54010tile-54 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Great![/blue] The objective is now in our inventory. BGA put an ❌ on it to show that we haven't completed it yet. As soon as we took it, a new tile was dealt to replace it. [blue]Our opponent will take one next...[/blue]1tile-54-front679ebd72bdbac00
NekonyancerNow we're ready to start the game! Our [red]*rancher*[/red] is currently at *El Paso.* For our first turn, we can move to *any space* on the board and trigger its actions.1tile-61679ebd7e20fe800meeple-1 1
NekonyancerLet's start at a leisurely pace. *Click on [blue]this space[/blue] to move there!*2tile-63679ebd7e20fe810tile-63 2
NekonyancerGood! Next, we can trigger some actions. At any space, we can either trigger... [red]• all the actions shown on the space[/red] OR [blue]• one *auxiliary* action.[/blue] Auxiliary actions are pretty weak, so we should go with the first option! *Click [red]here![/red]*1btnChoice0679ebda7d881810btnChoice0 1 btnChoice1 2
NekonyancerLet's start with the first action shown on the space: [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf607ba2bd5.52113027.jpg[/img] [red]Discard a Galloway card for 2πŸ“€.[/red] But before we execute the action, I should explain a little bit about Dollars and cards!1btnChoice0679ebdb1000c500btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerAs the first player, we started the game with [green]*4πŸ“€.*[/green] Our opponent started with 5. Gaining another 2πŸ“€ is significant!2money_counter-11941354679ebdb1000c500money_counter-11941354 3 money_counter-92143487 3
NekonyancerIf you scroll down, you'll find our [red]*hand of four cards,*[/red] just under the *dark blue bar* that indicates all of our personal belongings. Each card represents a cow. Each cow has a species and a numerical value at the top. Each species is always associated with a certain color. Galloways, for instance, are white.3player_name_11941354679ebdb1000c500hand-11941354 1
NekonyancerOur hand was drawn from our [blue]*personal starter deck,*[/blue] which always consists of... *• 4 Gray Criollos* *• 2 Black Pineywoods* *• 2 White Galloways* *• 2 Green Santa Gertrudises.* If you click on our deck, you can see exactly which cards are left, but not the order they're in.5card-card-deck-11941354-fake-top-card-back679ebdb1000c500card-card-deck-11941354-fake-top-card 2
NekonyancerSince we have a white *Galloway* in our hand, we can use [blue]*this action*[/blue] to discard it and gain 2 Dollars. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60872d3a7.78501588.jpg[/img] *Click [blue]here![/blue]*6btnChoice0679ebdb1000c510btnChoice0 2
Nekonyancer*Good!* The Galloway card went into our [red]*Discard Pile.*[/red] Next, let's learn about the other action: *hiring workers.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60935e465.44662373.jpg[/img]1card-25-front679ebdb34f95b00discard-11941354 1
NekonyancerThere are four kinds of workers we can hire. From left to right, they are *cowboys, builders, engineers,* and *wild workers.* It costs 5πŸ“€to hire one non-wild worker. Wilds cost an additional 4.2card-117679ebdb34f95b00
NekonyancerSince we chose a building-focused objective tile, let's hire a [red]*builder!*[/red] *Click [red]here![/red] Then [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] your choice at the top!*3card-117679ebdb34f95b10deck-11 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* Our new builder joined the rest of our available workforce. As you can see, we started the game with 1 worker of each type, so we now have *two* builders. Unlike cows, worker cards do not go into our hand. They will wait on the table in front of us until we need them.1card-106-front679ebdbcdd4f900
NekonyancerNext, if we had more money, we could buy an additional worker for another 8πŸ“€, but it would have to be a different kind than the first. And again, buying a Wild would cost an additional 4. Too bad money don't grow on trees 'round these parts! *Click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] to end our turn.*2btnConfirmTurn679ebdbcdd4f910btnConfirmTurn 2
NekonyancerWhen we ended our turn, we immediately drew from our deck until we hit our maximum hand size of *4 cards.* Like many other games, when our [blue]*deck*[/blue] runs out of cards to draw, our [red]*discard pile*[/red] will be shuffled to become our new deck. [blue]Now our opponent will take their turn...[/blue]1card-3-front679ebdc17fac400deck-11941354 2 discard-11941354 1
Nekonyancer[blue]Next turn![/blue] *Scroll up* to the main board. From now on (any turn after the first turn), we can't just move anywhere we want. We have to move our herder *1-3 occupied spaces* forward along the path.1tile-63-front679ebde0eccc000
NekonyancerBy *occupied,* I mean any space with a building on it. These [blue]*empty spaces*[/blue] don't count against our movement!2slot-3679ebde0eccc000slot-3 2 slot-4 2
NekonyancerWith that in mind, we could move all the way to [red]*this space,*[/red] but I think we'll mosey along one building at a time for now. *Move to [blue]this space![/blue]*3tile-1679ebde0eccc010tile-1 2 tile-19 1
NekonyancerJust like last time, we have to choose between this building's unique benefits (2πŸ“€ and 1 certificate) and a single auxiliary action. Our choice should be obvious... [red]*Click here!*[/red]1btnChoice0679ebde9e995d10btnChoice0 1
Nekonyancer*Okay, click [blue]here[/blue] to gain 2πŸ“€!*1btnChoice0679ebdec5fae610btnChoice0 2
NekonyancerNext, the certificate. Certificates can be used to increase the value of our herd when we reach El Paso. You'll see how that works later on. *Click [blue]here[/blue] to gain a certificate!*1btnChoice1679ebdeda048710btnChoice1 2
Nekonyancer*Great!* If you scroll down to our personal board, you'll see that the [red]*certificate tracker*[/red] on the right side of our player board moved to "1." [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf609ed4666.49243679.jpg[/img] However, you might find it more convenient to simply check the player info panel up [blue]*here.*[/blue]1certificates_counter-11941354679ebdefacbc100certificate-token-11941354 1 certificates_counter-11941354 2
NekonyancerAnother turn, another 1-3 space movement for our herder. Again, we'll just move 1 space (not counting the empty space in front of us). *Scroll down and move to [blue]this space![/blue]*1player_name_11941354679ebdffcb80010tile-17 2
Nekonyancer*Click [red]here[/red] to choose the building's unique actions!*1btnChoice0679ebe0e4081b10btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerThe first action is similar to one we saw before. We can discard a specific cow from our hand to earn 2πŸ“€. But this time, instead of a white *Galloway,* it's a black *Pineywoods.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60aa9fd30.32835338.jpg[/img] *Click [red]here![/red]*1btnChoice0679ebe14c169110btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerThe next action lets us pay 1πŸ“€ to gain an *exchange token.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60b640067.38201194.jpg[/img] Exchange tokens allow us to instantly draw a card and then discard a card from our hand. They're quite useful, so let's buy one! *Click [red]here![/red]*1btnChoice1679ebe173474810btnChoice1 1
NekonyancerThe exchange token went into our [blue]*inventory.*[/blue] Each player started the game with one, so we're now up to 2 exchange tokens.1exchange_tokens_counter-11941354679ebe2e233ed00exchange_tokens_counter-11941354 2
NekonyancerThe last action at this space lets us buy a card from the *Cattle Market.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf614d63af8.28065667.jpg[/img] *Click [red]here![/red]*2btnChoice2679ebe2e233ed10btnChoice2 1
Nekonyancer*Scroll down* until you find the Cattle Market. It's just above the supply of workers. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60c1f4381.81731776.jpg[/img] As you can see, there are four kinds of cows available. Like our starter cows, each one has a *value* and *species/color* listed at the top. Unlike our starter cows, these cows also have a *victory point value* in the bottom-right corner.1player_name_11941354679ebe31cc4ba00
Nekonyancer[blue]But how much do they cost?[/blue] *Click on the [red]"?"[/red] to the left of the market.* This should slide the cow prices into view.2player_name_11941354679ebe31cc4ba00
NekonyancerEach cow has a cowboy cost and aπŸ“€cost, which happens to be twice the amount of cowboys. [red]*For example,*[/red] a fine brown Shorthorn cow requires 3 cowboys and 6πŸ“€.4hint-cattle-7679ebe31cc4ba00hint-cattle-7 1
NekonyancerWe started the game with 1 cowboy and 1 Wild worker, which can be used as a second cowboy. I want to save our Wild for something else though, so I guess we're getting a Black Angus! *1.* Select a *Black Angus* (see arrow). *2.* Scroll down and select the [red]*cowboy*[/red] next to our player board. *3.* Click on [blue]*"Confirm"*[/blue] at the top!5hint-cattle-6679ebe31cc4ba10hint-cattle-5 15 deck-10-11941354 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* The cowboy card and our new Black Angus card went into our [red]*Discard Pile.*[/red] *Click on [blue]"Confirm"[/blue] to end our turn!*1player_name_11941354679ebe3f038c910btnConfirmTurn 2 discard-11941354 1
NekonyancerNext turn! Scroll back up to the main board. *Move to the [green]next space![/green]*1player_name_11941354679ebe8305c1b10tile-19 3
NekonyancerYou know the drill. *Click [red]here[/red] to choose the space's unique actions.*1btnChoice0679ebe8dc910810btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerThis action will let us discard a green Santa Gertrudis cow for 2πŸ“€. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60cd98202.78836446.jpg[/img] *Click [green]here![/green]*1btnChoice0679ebe90b9cfd10btnChoice0 3
NekonyancerGood! After we discarded the cow and gained 2πŸ“€, BGA went ahead and triggered the other action for us: *building placement!* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60d996e65.02087122.jpg[/img] *Scroll down until you find the building supply.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60e51d8f5.53538829.jpg[/img]1player_name_11941354679ebe93b7b8b00
NekonyancerPlacing a building is actually very similar to buying a cow. There are six different available buildings. If you click on the [red]*"?"*[/red] on the left, you'll see the *price* for each building: 1-9 builders and twice as manyπŸ“€.2player_name_11941354679ebe93b7b8b00
NekonyancerAs you probably guessed, buildings must be placed on empty spaces on the map. Some spaces incur additionalπŸ“€costs. *1.* Select the [red]*2πŸ‘€/4πŸ“€building.*[/red] *2.* Scroll *up* and place the building [green]*here.*[/green] *3.* Scroll *down* and select our [blue]*two builders,*[/blue] starting with the one in *back.* *4.* Click on [blue]*"Build"*[/blue] at the top!3slot-14679ebe93b7b8b10slot-14 3 tile-50 1 deck-11-11941354 2
Nekonyancer*Excellent!* BGA placed a colored cube in the bottom-right corner of the building to show who owns it. If our opponent stops here, he'll only be able to trigger a single auxiliary action. We are the only ones who can trigger its unique actions.1tile-50-front679ebebd1903f00
NekonyancerAlso, since this space is no longer empty, it will count for herder movement. [red]Thus, the more the board fills up with new buildings, the harder it gets for herders to move around![/red]2tile-50-front679ebebd1903f00
NekonyancerBy the way, did you notice anything strange when I explained everything about buildings? [red]"The most expensive building requires nine builders! How can anyone possibly accumulate so many?!"[/red]3maintitlebar_content679ebebd1903f00
Nekonyancer[blue]Well, we don't have to![/blue] When using the action, we don't always have to place a building on an empty space. We can replace one of your *previously placed buildings.* If we do, we only have to pay the *difference* between them, both in builders and inπŸ“€. This allows you to - over the course of several actions - construct very powerful buildings with just a few builders.4maintitlebar_content679ebebd1903f00
NekonyancerOur opponent just reached *El Paso!* This is an important moment, and I know you're probably hearing a lot of dinging sounds, but just ignore them for now. I'll explain when we reach El Paso ourselves.1maintitlebar_content679ebed17314c00
NekonyancerLet's visit our new building! *Click [red]here![/red]*1tile-50679ebef39019610slot-14 1
NekonyancerOur new building lets us pay 2πŸ“€to take a *bonus tile,* and... wait a second. [red]*We're broke!*[/red] Hmm. Fortunately, there's a way we can come up with the cash. We just have to dig deep in our pockets.1money_counter-11941354679ebf0558a9200money_counter-11941354 1
NekonyancerAt any time, we can *discard a worker* to trigger a secondary effect along the top of the card. [green]The wild worker's secondary effect is gaining 2πŸ“€![/green] *1.* Click on [blue]*discard a worker.*[/blue] *2.* Scroll down and select our [red]*wild worker.*[/red] *3. [blue]Confirm![/blue]*1player_name_11941354679ebf1bcf6b510card-118 1
NekonyancerGreat! We have just enough money now. *Click [red]here[/red] to select the building's unique actions!*1btnChoice0679ebf29408f810btnChoice0 1
Nekonyancer*Scroll up.* The first action lets us choose a [red]*bonus tile.*[/red] They look similar to objective tiles. There are three face up tiles here, but we can choose a random one from the face down stack if we don't like any of them.1tile-tile-deckmini_bonus-fake-top-card679ebf2dc022900tablemini_bonus 1
NekonyancerWhen we choose one, we'll get whatever effect is shown on it! You can hover over each tile to read details. If you prefer, you can also reactivate [blue]*Help mode*[/blue] and click on them.2tablemini_bonus679ebf2dc022900
NekonyancerThis tile lets us *permanently* get rid of one of the cows in our hand. I don't know about you, but I find this one of the most satisfying things to do in any deck-building game! *Select [red]this tile.[/red] Then [blue]confirm.[/blue]*3tile-42679ebf2dc022910tile-42 1
NekonyancerA new bonus tile was immediately drawn to replace the one we took. Now for our tile's effect... *Scroll down and select Criollo cow [red]on the right.[/red] [blue]Confirm![/blue]*1tile-22-front679ebf381818d10card-1 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* We should try to eliminate as many Criollos as we can to make room for more valuable cows. Next, BGA automatically triggered the space's other action, which let's us move our herder *one additional space.*1tile-50-front679ebf4068e6c00
NekonyancerAfter moving, we can trigger actions at our herder's destination again. It's kind of like getting an extra turn! The next space happens to be the last space on the circuit: El Paso. *Move to [red]El Paso![/red]*2tile-61679ebf4068e6c10slot-0 1
NekonyancerThe first two actions at El Paso are fairly straightforward. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60f1a17a0.81027652.jpg[/img] *First, we'll gain 5πŸ“€...*1gameaction_status_wrap679ebf440da7300
NekonyancerNext, BGA will add an orange *Simmental* cow to our discard pile, which has a value of *2.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf60fc76e01.55852454.jpg[/img] It's better than a Criollo, but not as good as the cows we can buy at the cattle market. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf610870c16.08148814.jpg[/img]2player_name_11941354679ebf441167000
NekonyancerOkay, now for the complicated part. *Scroll up as far as you can.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf6113e8e95.36881127.jpg[/img] BGA revealed our hand and calculated our total *breeding value,* which is the sum of the values of each *unique* cow in our hand.3card-18-front679ebf4416e7d00
NekonyancerIn this case, we don't have any duplicate cows in our hand, so every cow's value is counted. :) But if we had, say, a hand of four gray Criollos, our breeding value would be *1.*4card-34-front679ebf4416e7d00
NekonyancerWe can increase our breeding value by using any number of *certificates* we've saved up. In this case, I don't think we should use any. *Click on [red]"0,"[/red] then on [blue]"Confirm."[/blue]* This will lock in our breeding value at 5, at which point we'll *discard* our entire hand.5btn-0679ebf4416e7d10btn-0 1
NekonyancerNow that we've locked in our breeding value, we need to place a disk on a [red]*trading post,*[/red] all of which are in the middle of the main board. The number above each post shows the *minimum breeding value* we need to place a disk there. The icon below shows what bonus we'll receive!1player_name_11941354679ebf4dc4c5700post-0 1 meeple-13 1 post-7 1 post-9 1 post-10 1 post-12 1 post-14 1 post-16 1 post-18 1 post-20 1
NekonyancerFor example, if we had a breeding value of *9,* we could place a disk [red]*here*[/red] and hire a new worker. Since our value is *5,* we'll have to settle for one of [blue]*these two posts.*[/blue] Our opponent already placed a disk on the *"5"* post, but that doesn't matter. We can still place a disk there.2post-16679ebf4dc4c5700post-0 7 meeple-13 7 post-9 6
NekonyancerThe disk we place must come from one of the slots on our *player board.* [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf61367f789.45243030.jpg[/img] Scroll down until you find it.3player_name_11941354679ebf4dc4c5700
NekonyancerRemember those *auxiliary actions* I disparaged earlier? The left side of our player board shows what options we have when triggering one. [blue]Right now, we have two:[/blue] [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf611efde68.48361604.jpg[/img]: Gain 1πŸ“€. [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf612ada235.17321063.jpg[/img]: Draw and discard 1 card. 4playerboard-11941354679ebf4dc4c5700
NekonyancerIf we moved one of [red]*these disks*[/red] onto a trading post, we would uncover an icon, making the corresponding action more powerful. [green]You can hover over the disks to see the icons underneath.[/green]5playerboard-11941354679ebf4dc4c5700meeple-2 1 meeple-4 1
NekonyancerFor example, if we placed [red]*this disk*[/red] on a post, we could gain 3πŸ“€with an auxiliary action instead of 1.6meeple-2679ebf4dc4c5700meeple-2 1
NekonyancerAlternatively, we could use one of [red]*these two disks*[/red] to unlock another auxiliary option. One of them grants a *certificate* when used. The other lets us permanently remove cows from our hand, just like the bonus tile we used earlier.7playerboard-11941354679ebf4dc4c5700meeple-3 1 meeple-5 1
NekonyancerHowever, if you look closely, you'll see that [red]*this disk*[/red] has an additional cost of 3πŸ“€. This cost only applies to moving the disk - the auxiliary action it unlocks will be free, just like the others.8meeple-5679ebf4dc4c5700meeple-5 1
NekonyancerThere are three more disks on the right side of our board, and each one unlocks a *very* powerful upgrade. [red]*This one*[/red] gives one permanent reusable certificate. [blue]*This one*[/blue] increases our hand size to 5. [green]*This one*[/green] increases our herder's maximum movement to 4.9playerboard-11941354679ebf4dc4c5700meeple-6 1 meeple-7 2 meeple-8 3
NekonyancerUnfortunately, those disks have *black corners.* Black-cornered disks can only be placed on black-cornered trading posts, the cheapest of which requires a breeding value of at least *10.* [green]When you play a real game, you'll probably want to unlock one of those black-cornered disks as quickly as possible![/green]10playerboard-11941354679ebf4dc4c5700
NekonyancerI really like permanently discarding cows, so let's unlock the last auxiliary action. *1.* Select [red]*this disk.*[/red] *2.* Scroll up and place it on the [blue]*"5" trading post.*[/blue]11meeple-5679ebf4dc4c5710meeple-13 7 meeple-5 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* By the way, each post will only accommodate one of each players' disks. We can never place another disk on *5!* The exceptions are the [blue]*0, 12,*[/blue] and [blue]*16*[/blue] posts. We can place as many disks on those as we like.1post-12679ebf6c4c5f800post-0 7 post-12 7 post-16 7
NekonyancerBefore we end our turn, *scroll down* to our personal stuff again. We're about to draw *4* cards to fill our hand, but there are only *3* cards left in our [red]*deck.*[/red]2player_name_11941354679ebf6c4c5f800deck-11941354 1
NekonyancerAfter we draw them, BGA will shuffle our [blue]*discard pile*[/blue] - which includes our workers, the orange Simmental cow, and the yellow Black Angus cow - and place it on the left as our new deck. Then we'll draw the last card.3card-card-deck-11941354-fake-top-card-back679ebf6c4c5f800discard-11941354 2
NekonyancerHmm. We didn't draw any of our used workers. Too bad. Whenever a worker is drawn, it is immediately placed on the table in front of us, and a new card is drawn to replace it. 1card-3-front679ebf7a0360200
Nekonyancer[green]Next turn![/green] Scroll up to the main board. We've completed our first trip to El Paso, and now we're back where we started. Unfortunately, we have some tough choices to make. It would be nice to go [red]*here*[/red] to get another worker, but we won't have enough money unless we discard our *Engineer.*1tile-63679ebfb6bc24d00slot-2 1
NekonyancerI still need to show you how Engineers work, so I want to hold onto him. Let's move [blue]*here*[/blue] to get 2πŸ“€ and a certificate. *Click [blue]here![/blue]*2tile-1679ebfb6bc24d10tile-1 2
NekonyancerNext, let's move to [blue]*this space!*[/blue] We skipped it on our first trip around the board. *Click [blue]here![/blue]*1tile-53679ebfe86eeff10tile-53 2
NekonyancerThis space lets us use 1 auxiliary action *AND* use the train. We'll start with the Auxiliary action. *Click [red]here![/red]*1btnChoice0679ebff27ec3e10btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerWe can now trigger any of the options we have unlocked on our player board. I want to get rid of more Criollos. *Click [blue]here[/blue] to trash one!*1btnChoice2679ebff5adaaf10btnChoice2 2
NekonyancerNext, *scroll down* to our hand. *Click on [red]this Criollo.[/red] [blue]Confirm![/blue]*1maintitlebar_content679ebffab069810card-2 1
Nekonyancer[green]Great! 2 Criollos down, 2 to go.[/green] Next, BGA went ahead and triggered the Train action for us. If you *scroll up,* you'll find *four train car cards.* Each one has an activation cost, which is - you guessed it - 1 to 4 *Engineers* and twice that many Dollars.1tile-49-front679ebfff8872f00
NekonyancerWe only have 1 Engineer, so we can only use the first car. *1.* Click on the first car. *2.* Scroll down and select our [red]*Engineer.*[/red] *3. [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2tile-13679ebfff8872f10card-94 1
Nekonyancer*Great!* We can take a new objective tile and another exchange token. *Click [red]here![/red]*1btnChoice0679ec008ed8e010btnChoice0 1
NekonyancerLet's take another building-focused objective. *Take [red]this one![/red] [blue]Confirm![/blue]*1tile-62679ec010377a610tile-62 1
NekonyancerWe're almost done with the tutorial. In a second, we'll move to our personal building again, buy another bonus tile, and immediately move on to El Paso. Remember, we want to place a black-cornered disk as quickly as possible, and for that, we need a breeding value of at least *10.* [red]Right now, the cards in our hand have a value of 5...[/red]1tile-50679ec047c7a4c00
NekonyancerThis is a good time to use some of our *exchange tokens!* Again, each one allows us to draw and discard a card. *Click on [blue]"Use Exchange token!"[/blue]*2btnAnytimeAction0679ec047c7a4c10btnAnytimeAction0 2
Nekonyancer*Scroll down to our hand.* We drew our [blue]*Cowboy*[/blue] worker, which was immediately placed down on the table. We then drew a replacement: the orange Simmental. Nice! [red]You know which card we should discard, right?[/red]1player_name_11941354679ec06e7c60100deck-10-11941354 2
Nekonyancer[red]Definitely one of the Criollos![/red] Remember, we can only gain value from 1 of each type of cow, so having a second Criollo wouldn't help us. Besides, Criollos have the lowest value. *Select the Criollo in the middle of our hand. [blue]Confirm![/blue]*2card-3679ec06e7c60110
NekonyancerOkay, our Breeding Value is now 7. If we use all three of our certificates, it will get us up to 10, but it would be nice to get there with just cows instead. Let's try one more Exchange token. We want to draw a Pineywoods, or best of all, the Black Angus! *Click [blue]here[/blue] to use another token!*1btnAnytimeAction1679ec074cacc310btnAnytimeAction1 2
NekonyancerAw, another Santa Gertrudis. *Discard the one in the middle of our hand.*1card-17679ec08a5ccdb10
NekonyancerThat last token was a bust, but you know what? This is good enough. I don't want to use our last Exchange token. *Scroll back up to the board and move to [blue]this space[/blue] so we can get our bonus tile and move on to El Paso!*1tile-50679ec0a90d17b10tile-50 2
NekonyancerOkay! If you scroll up, you'll see that BGA revealed our hand again and declared our Breeding Value: 7. We definitely want to use all 3 of our certificates to get to 10. *Click on [red]"3,"[/red] then on [blue]"Confirm!"[/blue]*1player_name_11941354679ec0bd8571b10btn-3 1
NekonyancerExcellent! *Scroll down* to our board again. I think we should unlock the *middle* black-cornered disk to expand our hand size. That will make it much easier to get higher breeding values with each visit to El Paso! *1.* Select [red]*this disk.*[/red] *2.* Scroll up and place it on the [blue]*"10"*[/blue] post!1player_name_11941354679ec0c76f24a10post-10 2 meeple-7 1
Nekonyancer*We're off to a great start!* Now, whenever we end our turn, we'll draw until we have 5 cards instead of 4. [green]That makes a tremendous difference![/green]1player_name_11941354679ec0d73c7f200
Nekonyancer[green]Okay, I think you've seen enough![/green] When a player reaches El Paso but there aren't any Simmental Cows left to take, the game will end. Then BGA will count up the points!1maintitlebar_content679ec0dbd0de900
Nekonyancer[blue]Each player scores...[/blue] • Points indicated on each trading post, building, worker, cow, or bonus tile they acquired/built. β€’ 1 point for every 5 leftover πŸ“€. • Points for each fulfilled objective tile. [green]One important thing to note about objectives:[/green] each game element can only be used for a single objective, except for buildings.4maintitlebar_content679ec0dbd0de900
NekonyancerFor example, we have two [red]building-focused objectives.[/red] A single very expensive building could satisfy both. However, if we had these two objectives... [img]https://x.boardgamearena.net/data/tutorials/img67adf61424a535.05362124.jpg[/img] ... we would need one blue cow for each of them! [green]Once all the points are counted up, whoever has the most points is the winner![/green]5tile-54-front679ec0dbd0de900playertable-mini_objective11941354 1
Nekonyancer[blue]One last thing![/blue] The buildings you saw in this tutorial are recommended for your *first game,* which is the default game mode on BGA. If you get tired of those buildings, try toggling *normal mode.* Some of the buildings will be flipped to their B-sides, allowing for completely different strategies!6maintitlebar_content679ec0dbd0de900
Nekonyancer[blue]*Thank you for playing through this tutorial for Great Western Trail: El Paso!*[/blue] If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, feel free to send *Nekonyancer* a message! Big thank yous go out to... • *Alexander Pfister* and *Johannes Krenner* for designing this game. • *Lookout Games* for publishing. • *firgon* for bringing it to BGA. Have fun! :D7maintitlebar_content679ec0dbd0de900
