ScribalWelcome to *Odin*, an abstract game of Viking combat where we are racing to be the first player to empty our hands.4player_board_80606858000
ScribalIn *Odin*, the deck consists of 6 different color suits numbered 1-9. Each color is also marked by an accompanying Viking rune, printed just below the number, to make it color blind friendly. We are the second player, so let's see what our opponent is going to play to start the game.5player_board_80606858000
ScribalOur opponent played a black 3. We can play 1 more card than our opponent played, which means that we can play 1 or 2 cards. The goal is to get rid of our hand as quickly as possible, so while we're thinking about the best play, let me explain what makes a valid play.10player_board_8060685866de65c2706c100
ScribalAny number that we play has to be higher than what is currently in the middle of the table and more cards always beats fewer cards. We can play multiple cards of the same color, or multiple cards of the same number. Cards of the same color are always played in descending order. [blue][tip] There is no requirement to play a different color, or the same color as what your opponent played.[/blue]11player_board_8060685866de65c2706c100
ScribalWe started with a fairly strong hand. Since our goal is to empty our hand as quickly as possible and the most cards we can play is 2, which cards do you think we should play?12player_name_8060685866de65c2706c100
ScribalActually, I don't want to weaken the colors we already have. We have 4 black cards and 3 pink cards, but we don't have just 2 of any one suit. Our blue and brown cards are not the same number, so they can't be played together. I think we should just play 1 card.13player_board_8060685866de65c2706c100
ScribalWe could play the 4, but let's play the blue 9. Since you always have to play a higher number, this will ensure our opponent will play 2 cards(a 2 digit number) so we can play 3 of the same color. If they have a hand like ours, it could weaken their hand. Click the blue 9, second from the end, and then confirm.14player_board_8060685866de65c2719cf10
ScribalOh, it seems I forgot to mention that when you replace cards on the table, you'll always take 1 of the previously played cards into your hand. We haven't reduced the size of our hand, but we now have 5 black cards potentially making that color very strong.2player_board_8060685866de65e48811f00
ScribalOur opponent played 2 pink cards. Let's play our pink 7,5,2.2player_board_8060685866de65ee6b7d310
ScribalWe need to pick one of the cards our opponent played. We could take the 1 and then maybe play it by itself in another round, or possibly with the black 1, if we aren't able to play them all together this round, but I think it makes more sense to take the 4 to play with our lonely brown 4. Click on the pink 4 to take it into our hand.1player_board_8060685866de65fb06b4b10
ScribalOur opponent played 4 blues which plays into our trap very nicely, and look! There's even a 4 to make our set stronger. Select all 5 of our black cards and play them. Since our opponent only has 4 cards left, they'll have to pass. *Victory will be ours!*1player_board_8060685866de661838c5210
ScribalClick the blue 4 to take it into our hand.1player_board_8060685866de66283672710
ScribalOur opponent passed and all of the cards were cleared from the table. Since we were the last one to play, we start the new round. All of our careful plotting has left us with the choice between these 4s. Which one should we start off with?1player_board_8060685866de662a0101600
Scribal*We're going to play all of them!* In *Odin*, at the start of a round, if all of your cards are of the same color or are all the same number, you can play them. You aren't restricted to a single card. Select all three 4s and confirm to empty our hand.2player_board_8060685866de662a0101610
ScribalThe first hand ended. Our opponent had 4 cards left in their hand and their score was reduced by 4. A new hand was dealt and we will continue playing like this until someone's score is reduced to 0. Now, you know everything you need to know to play *Odin*.1player_board_8060685866de663643ae100
Scribal[blue]Thank you for playing this tutorial for *Odin*. Good luck and have fun![/blue] If you have any questions or comments regarding this tutorial, please send a message to [blue]*Scribal*.[/blue] We'd like to thank the designers of this game, * Yohan Goh*, *Hope S. Hwang*, and *Gary Kim*, the publisher, *Helvetiq*, and the developer of this implementation, *fenadoruk*. 2player_board_8060685866de663643ae100
